The complex soil structur of the Pomerol plateau, where the venyards of Petrus are located, has a sector of 20 ha composed of deep blueish clay soils with a marked iron content. Pétrus occupies 11 ha of this for his wine. This terroir (soil) is ideal for the vines (95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 0 Cabernet Sauvignon!) ) and makes Pétrus a very long-lived wine.
