Riesling is one of the noble grape varieties and is capable of producing a variety of extraordinary white wine styles, and is most known for the sweeter-style German wine it produces.  Although sweet wines dominate this category, there are some amazingly dry and complex wine is produced in Alsace, Germany and the United States. This grape variety dominates in Germany and the majority of the white wines produced there are made in the sweeter style. There is a classification system in place, which categorizes wines by their sweetness. From driest to sweetest, they are Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese,  Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese. These whites range from the semisweet, lighter style to the extremely sweet, lush and dessert wine style.

Viticulture in the Layon area was developed by Dutch traders in the 16th century. The wine is made from 100% Chenin Blanc grape variety. The temperate oceanic and particularly dry climate, combined with the shallow and pebbly soils that warm up quickly, offer ideal conditions for the development of noble rot. The slopes are well ventilated and allow overripe grapes to be harvested with a very high sugar content (140g of residual sugar in the wine). The berries have to be collected manually in several harvesting stages. The golden yellow color changes to old gold with amber reflections as it ages.

German most famous and oldest viticulture is the „Steilhange“, steep slopes along the Mosella river. No wonder that Weingut Milz can praise such a long winemaking tradition and history. Since 1520, the Milz family has been known as great winemakers in Trittenheim, a wine village in the well-known Moselschleife. Parts of the original 1680 wine cellar are today still visible. Milz’s wines are quite classic Riesling from the Mosel, since they present the ideal alcohol level, delicatesugar residue and an extremely long finish. In 1900, these wines used to be the most expensive in any European restaurant’s menu, even more high-priced than the best Burgundies and Bordeaux wines.

The Leiterchen is a single part of the Trittenheimer Apotheke vineyard is located in front of Trittenheim on the right bank of the Mosella. This region is famous for his 40%-60% incline. Soil is rocky and made up of green-blue Devon – altered slate that during the day stores the sun heat on the west-southern slopes and at night gives it back to the vine. This phenomenon allows the growing Riesling to properly ripen. The vineyard is located at 150-200 metres above sea level and stretches across 72 hectares.

Vin Jaune - often called straw wine in German - is a special feature of the Jura wine-growing region. The Côtes du Jura appellation includes the wines of the French wine region between Burgundy and Switzerland. The dominant grape varieties of the often very mineral wines are Chardonnay and Savagnin for white wines and Pinot Noir, as well as Poulsard and Trousseau for red wines.

Chateau Lafon Rochet in St. Estephe dates back to the middle of the 17th century. The estate was founded In 1650. While many Bordeaux vineyards were confiscated during the French Revolution, that did not happen to Lafon Rochet. The Left Bank estate remained the property of the same family for more than two centuries. In 1959 the Tesseron family purchased the estate.
The 45 hectare vineyards of Lafon Rochet consists in one single, large parcel with three soil types, limestone, marl and clay. Chateau Lafon Rochet is located no far from Chateau Cos d’Estournel and Chateau Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac. The St. Estephe Bordeaux wine vineyard of Lafon Rochet is planted with 54% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.

Hermitage is one of the famous Grand Cru on the Côte du Rhône. The very elegant Syrah offers dark berry, spicy aromas with strong tannins and is very long-lasting.

The Hermitage Hill was formed in the Ice Age when the Rhône broke through this eastern extension of the Massif Central following a rapid fall in sea level. Despite its small size, the Hermitage is geologically very diverse. In the highest, western part, the soil consists of granite, which weathers into fine clay. The eastern, larger part of the slope, on the other hand, is formed in the middle by rubble made of sand and limestone that the Rhône had transported from the Alps. At the foot of the slope there are younger sediments from the Würme Ice Age. The highest points are again covered with loess. To protect the thin layers of soil from slipping, walls made of limestone were built. The name of the extremely long-lasting red wine Hermitage goes back to a hermitage founded in 1224 (Hermitage = hermit).
