However, the best wines from Bordeaux and often also from Piedmont are only delivered in 12 wine wooden boxes or 6 wine wooden boxes. The boxes themselves are not an elaborate affair. Even though the wine that is transported in them can cost several hundred euros per bottle, such a wooden box is made of simple spruce or pine wood.
We have orientated ourselves on the simple wooden crates of the wineries and chateaux when selecting our wooden crates. With one or two compromises: our wooden wine boxes are not closed with staples like the originals, but have a hinged lid with sturdy hinges. So you can present the wine without damaging the box.
And the wine gift box is not available as a box of 12, but only as a wooden box of 1, 2 or 3. This is because it is usually used as gift packaging for only 1-3 bottles of a rare old vintage wine.
It took some time of searching to find a wooden wine box of sufficiently high quality. We had been annoyed for a long time about deficiencies in the workmanship of the wooden boxes. Cheap hinges peeling off, nails driven in crookedly or even staples that held the wooden box together more badly than well.
The seemingly noble veneered gift boxes with silk lining from China also failed to convince us.
In the meantime, we have the wooden boxes made according to our specifications. A simple, light wood, glazed reddish brown and classically expertly joined with the so-called tenons and sides. You can recognise this traditional joining of the sides by the characteristic chequerboard pattern that runs along the corners of the wooden crate.
Wooden parts joined in this way do not need nails or staples.
We have had an engraving inserted into the dark top. In this way we pick up on the exterior of the original wooden crates: on the front or the lid you can see the logo and the name of the winery. We had to find a solution for all the wines from all the different wineries. That's why our wooden wine box carries the antique wine logo and our choice of name. We stand by the wines we send you. We stand with our name for their authenticity as well as for the perfect state of preservation and the famous origin of each wine. That is why the wooden wine box bears our logo and the motto vinum antiquum non sine nomine as an engraving. This means: old wines with rank and name.
PS: Our customers often ask whether we can also engrave the name of the presentee or similar on the box. Unfortunately, such laser engravings can only be used on uncoloured wooden crates and then result in a pale brownish image. We recommend inserting your personal dedication together with the wine documents on the inside of the lid.

The Bordeaux glass is taller than traditional red wine glasses, yet the bowl is not quite as large. It is designed for full bodied, heavier red wines such as Cabernets and Merlots. The tallness of the glass allows the wine to proceed directly to the back of the mouth to maximize its flavor.
