Description of the product
Château Arricau-Bordes, with its medieval castle, is the landmark of the Madiran wine region. Madiran stands for extremely dense, tannic wines with a long shelf life. Wine growing in Madiran began with the Romans in the 2nd century. But it wasn't until the Benedictine abbey of Marcillac was founded in 1030 that the region's wine received recognition. For a long time, the strong red wine was the drink of the priests and was associated with the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The following three centuries were the golden age of wine. François I and Henri IV drank the "vin de Madiran" at court.
The wines are almost always cuvées from Tannat, Cabernet Franc ("Bouchy"), Cabernet Sauvignon and finally Fer Servadou ("Pinenc").
