Wine 1970
Wines love mild, balanced weather, no extremes. Rain is allowed to fall at the right time, but not too much, so that the grapes remain healthy. The more growth progresses, the more important heat and drought are. A certain drought stress for the vines favors aromatically complex wines. 1970 was such a year when the weather ... took a very favorable course for healthy grape ripening. High quality vineyards produce the best results year after year and thus long-lived wines. With ideal storage, wines of 1970 can still be in very good condition today and can be drunk with pleasure.
A real old and drinkable wine from 1970. Every wine lover is fascinated by a perfectly aged and rare red wine with a world-famous origin.

The Kiedricher Heiligenstock vineyard takes its name from the old Gothic crucifix that has served as a cross in the vineyard since the 14th century. The location includes the famous individual vineyards Gräfenberg, Turmberg, Wasseros, Klosterberg and Sandgrub.
Riesling is the typical white grape variety of Germany. Characteristic fruit and a pronounced acidity create a lively balance in a good Riesling. You often think you can recognize the origins of a Riesling straight away. The most famous are the Riesling vineyards of the Rheingau and the Moselle. The wines are very long-lived.

Nebbiolo is a red Italian wine grape variety predominantly associated with the Piedmont region where it makes the wines of Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo and Gattinara. Nebbiolo is thought to derive its name from the Italian word nebbia which means fog. Nebbiolo does not adapt exceptionally well to various vineyard soil types, preferring soils with high concentration of calcareous marl such as those found on the right bank of the Tanaro river around Alba where the finest Barolo and Barbaresco are produced.

Barolo was originally produced as a sweet wine. Comparison with French wines contributed, starting in the early 19th century, to the evolution towards the dry, long ageing type. The consecration of this wine is due to the last Marquises of Barolo, Carlo Tancredi and his wife Giulia Colbert, who made their precious nectar known to the leading political and literary figures of the time. It is only after long ageing in oak or chestnut barrels that Barolo reaches its characteristic garnet red colour with orange reflections, and fully expresses the fullness, softness and austerity that make it one of the most appreciated wines in the world.

Why is Barolo a wine that can be stored for a long time and is still easy to drink?
1. the wine region. The hills of the Langhe mountains south of Turin have a mild climate. There is warm Italian sunshine, but not too much. In autumn, the nights are cool. From time to time there is rain and fog.
Great wines and noble grape varieties love this. 2. the grape variety. Barolo is made purely from the red wine variety Nebbiolo. The grape variety is demanding and produces small yields (which is why the mass wine from Piedmont is Barbera). It was only 200 years ago that people learnt to make wines from Nebbiolo as dry red wines. The grape variety only produces great wines in Piedmont. 3. the soils of the vineyards. The best wineries in Barolo have their vineyards on the flanks of the hills. There are limestone-marl soils with ideal drainage for deep-rooted vines. The best single vineyard sites are meticulously divided into small parcels among the top winegrowers. 4. the winegrowers. There are around 1000 winegrowers in the Barolo region. About 20 of them produce truly outstanding wines. In addition to excellent vineyard sites, they also have the skills and expertise to bring the difficult Nebbiolo grape variety to perfect results. Precisely harmonised ageing in wooden barrels. Often in large oak barrels, which make the wine soft and supple despite its powerful structure.

The classical dry red wine comes from the Barolo DOC in Northern Italy, the most important wine region of Piedmont. Prior to the mid-19th century, Barolo was a sweet wine. The fact that the Nebbiolo grape ripens late in October meant that temperatures would be steadily dropping by harvest. By November and December, temperatures in the Piedmont region would be cold enough to halt fermentation, leaving a significant amount of residual sugar left in the wine. In the mid-19th century the French enologist Louis Oudart improve the winemaking techniques of the local producers. Using techniques focusing on improving the hygiene of the cellar, Oudart was able to ferment the Nebbiolo must completely dry, making the first modern Barolo. This new, dry red wine soon became a favorite among the nobility of Turin and the ruling House of Savoy, giving rise to the popular description of Barolo as the wine of kings, the king of wines.

The ultimate in Sauternes and one of the most famous 1er Grand Cru Classé in the world. The Sauternes appellation, named after the municipality of the same name, with around 1,700 hectares of vineyards, forms an island in the large Graves area south of Bordeaux. It consists of the five municipalities of Bommes, Fargues-de-Langon, Preignac and Sauternes, as well as Barsac. For centuries, sweet white wines have been produced here from botrytized grapes. The later US President Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), who was ambassador in Paris from 1785 to 1789 and visited many French wine-growing regions during this time, described Sauternes as the best white wine in the country after Champagne and Hermitage. The highly calcareous soil offers excellent conditions for white wines.
