Wine 1986
Winegrowers love it when the grapes can ripen slowly and undisturbed. 1986 offered the right weather pattern for aromatically complex, long-lived wines to emerge. A cool, wet spring in 1986 led to a late start of the vegetation cycle. The summer was warm on average and dry at the same time. The grapes, which became increasingly sensitive as they matured, were able to ripen in peace. ... The grape harvest took place late and resulted in above-average yields. If slow ripening is optimal, such a course of the year naturally creates the danger that sudden changes in the weather, especially late rain, will ruin everything. In 1986, however, the growing season went perfectly. Many of the high-quality wines became real long-distance runners and can still be drunk very well today.

The Val d'Arno, where Il Borro is located, has an ancient vocation for the production of wines of excellence. It is an area characterised by unique pedoclimatic conditions, which profoundly influence the structure and texture of the wines, paying tribute to the individual types of vines and above all to their adaptation to an environment that enhances their specific characteristics. The Borro estate was sold in 1903 to Prince Emanuele Filiberto, Duke of Aosta. Duke Amedeo, obtained the Borro as an inheritance from the Savoy Aosta family and had to provide for the reconversion of the farm, like all the other Tuscan farms affected by the crisis of the centuries-old sharecropping system. In 1993, the Borro then became the property of the Ferragamo family.

The classical dry red wine comes from the appellation Graves, Pessac Leognan in Médoc. Graves (from French: gravelly land) is an important subregion of the Bordeaux wine region. Graves is situated on the left bank of the Garonne river, in the upstream part of the region, southeast of the city Bordeaux. The name Graves derives from ist intensely gravelly soil. The soil is the result of glaciers from the Ice Age, which also left white quartz deposits that can still be found in the soil of some of the top winemaking estates. Typical for the left bank wines (Médoc) is the blend of grapes with Cabernet Sauvignon as the predominant grape. The others are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

Château Lamothe-Bergeron owes part of its name and its reputation to the prestige of the agronomist Jacques de Bergeron. From 1796, this former parliamentarian dispatched to his vines by the French Revolution devoted himself to experimentation and carried out numerous trials in vine cultivation. From his father he inherited Château La Mothe, which in the Middle Ages had been the seat of a domain known by the name of Cussac. The Monferrato zone lays claim to being Barbera's birthplace, and records of it growing there as far back as the 13th century. But the hills around Alba and Monforte d'Alba have proved they are capable of growing some particularly fine Barbera, as are parts of the Asti province. Century-old vines still exist in many regional vineyards and allow for the production of long-aging, robust red wines with intense fruit and enhanced tannic content. The best known appellation is the DOCG(Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) Barbera D'Asti in the Piedmont region

Pernand Vergelesses is typical Burgundy - and typically complicated. On the one hand, it refers to the village appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region. Added to the village name Pernand is the designation for the best vineyard "Les Vergelesses" with 18 hectares of vineyards. However, part of it also belongs to the neighbouring municipality of Savigny-lès-Beaune. In addition, the municipality of Pernand also has a share of 17 hectares in the famous Corton vineyard and thus has wines with the Corton Grand Cru designation. Be that as it may - in any case, the red wines are among the interesting growths of Bourgogne.

The Listrac-Médoc appellation is situated in the north-west of the Gironde County. This area, baptised The Roof of the Médoc, reaches a height of 43 metres above sea level.
Château Clarke dates back to the 12th century, when Cistercian monks at the Vertheuil Abbey in Listrac planted the first grapevines. In the year 1771 the Irish knight Tobie Clarke bought the vineyards with 230 hectares. Then, after a series of inheritances and sales, the property was bought in 1973 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild and has now 53 hectares of vineyards.
The grapevines are planted on clay-limestone hilltops that encourage the expression of the Merlot grape that largely dominates the vine mix (a rare feature in the Médoc district).

The classical dry red wine comes from the Barbaresco DOC in Northern Italy, the important wine region of Piedmont. Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Piedmont. It is a wine of extremely ancient origin and was mentioned by Livy in his monumental History of Rome. It was only toward the middle of the 19th century, however, that production was begun of a dry type of wine, which brought out all of Barbaresco's extraordinary qualities. Professor Domizio Cavazza, a noted enologist, introduced new vinification techniques and, in 1894, founded a cooperative winery exclusively dedicated to the production of Barbaresco. Barbaresco is 100% made with the Nebbiolo grape. The dry red wine is produced in the Piedmont region in an area of the Langhe immediately to the east of Alba and specifically in the comunes of Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive plus that area of the frazione San Rocco. The soils of Barbaresco zone are composed primarily of calcareous marl dating from the Tortonian epoch.

In the 1950s, the Clos des Menuts only covered one hectare of vineyards. Today it extends to over 25 hectares, not far from the historic town of Saint Emilion and located mainly in the western part of the municipality. This wine is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The high proportion of Merlot is a consequence of the iron-containing sand-clay soil and can be compared to Pomerol.

Valle Talloria di Diano d'Alba is a small paradise at the foot of the Langhe hills, in Piedmont where the Giordano family has been producing wine since 1900. In1950 Ferdinando Giordano, the founder’s grandson was the man behind the great idea to sell directly to individual clients: no middle man, just straight from the winemaker to the consumer. But at the time, Giordano was a pioneer. He began by contacting clients one at a time and offering to send his wines to their homes. Orders soon came thick and fast and since then, the company has continued exclusively with this sales system.

The two brothers replanted most of the 85 hectares of vineyards, the balance now being 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot.
