Wine 2010
2010 is an excellent vintage in France. During the growing cycle, the weather remained very dry. Temperatures nevertheless remained moderately warm in 2010, so that grape ripening progressed quietly. In Italy, the conditions were similar. However, the spread of fungal diseases on the vines had to be carefully prevented, especially at the beginning of summer. In Germany, the weather conditions ... were much more problematic. The top wines did best here. 2010 is a classic Cabernet Sauvignon vintage - for powerful wines with a firm structure. Let us advise you if you are looking for a wine that will be stored for a long time.

The red Barbera grape variety probably comes from the Italian region of Piedmont, where it is also the main grape variety and accounts for half of the vineyard area. The origin is controversial, one of the variants is that it was introduced to Piedmont by the Lombards in the 7th century. It has been known there since the 13th century and was mentioned in a document in 1799. The very productive vine produces acidic wines that are low in tannins. However, with rigorous yield restrictions and in a good location, you can get robust, powerful wines.

Recognition of DOCG status came in 1980. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano production zone comprises the land belonging to the municipal area of Montepulciano in the province of Siena, a particularly favourable location on the hilly ridge between Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia. The land in this production zone is at altitudes of between 250 and 580 metres a.s.l. and the quality of the wines produced here is largely influenced by its climactic and geological features. The grapes are from 70% of Prugnolo Gentile, a type of Sangiovese, and the rest is Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Mammolo, other locally and traditional grapes in Siena. The Gattavecchi family has dedicated itself to wine production for over a hundred years. By the 1950’s, Valente Gattavecchi was already going beyond the borders of Italy to introduce the best selection of Vino Nobile – refined in the ancient convent of Santa Maria dei Servi in Montepulciano.

The Recioto or Amarone is produced in the Valpolicella wine region using a special process. After the harvest, the best grapes are dried on wooden grids for two to four months. This creates extraordinarily concentrated, intense and long-storable wines that finely balance sweetness and bitterness in their best representatives. The term Amarone usually refers to the dry version of Recioto.
With Ripasso, a second fermentation is initiated after the mash fermentation - this makes the wine fuller and more flavorful than the normal Valpolicella.

Chablis from old vine stocks of the very good winegrowing community La Chablisienne. The cooperative was founded in 1923 and is one of the most renowned winegrowers' associations in France (in general, the winegrowers' cooperatives in France are of an excellent standard).
The Chablis wine-growing region is the northernmost of the wine-growing regions of the Burgundy region. The name was very well known, especially in the 1970s and 1980s, and at that time was considered a synonym for a dry white wine. Chablis is almost equidistant from Champagne, from Sancerre on the Loire and from the nearest Burgundy locations on the Côte d'Or. The cool wine-growing climate gives the Chardonnay a pronounced acidity, which the winemaker usually leaves in the wine in favor of the fruitiness. The wines are therefore mostly matured in stainless steel tanks and do not go through malolactic fermentation. The steely acidity, which is strongly determined by the comparatively high proportion of malic acid, is one of the hallmarks of Chablis and gives the white wine a remarkable longevity.

Château Camensac borders on the Saint-Julien appellation, in the commune of Saint-Laurent-de-Médoc, surrounded by other excellent classed growths such as La Tour Carnet and Belgrave. Camensac means on the water's way, and comes from the words "camens", which means path or way and "ac", which means water in local dialect. In 1965 it was bought by the Forner brothers, who also own the well-known Marques de Carceres bodega in Rioja. The two brothers replanted most of the 85 hectares of vineyards, the balance now being 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. They also renovated the cuverie and the cellars and hired the renowned Bordeaux oenologist Emile Peynaud as a consultant. he Merlaut family acquired Camensac in time for the 2005 vintage. Céline Villars-Loubet who owns Chasse-Spleen and her husband, Jean-Pierre Foubet are now in charge of the estate.

Brunello di Montalcino is a DOCG for dry red wine in the Italian region of Tuscany. The zone covers the slopes around the picturesque hilltop town of Montalcino - 40 kilometers south of Siena in the province of the same name. The wine is made 100 percent from the Sangiovese variety Brunello. An important aspect of quality lies in the very special climate, as it is warmer and drier than in the nearby Chianti areas and the nights are cooler. The Castello di Banfi winery was founded by the two Italian-Americans Harry and John Mariani from New York, who had become very wealthy by importing Lambrusco. In the mid-1970s they created a very ambitious wine project that focused on the highest quality and quickly gained great recognition.
