Sociando Mallet takes its name from two previous owners. A nobleman known as Sociando held the property in 1633. Over a century later, the second part of the estates name came from a captain in the navy who owned the estate by the name of Mallet who put the two names together to form Sociando Mallet. The modern era of Chateau Sociando Mallet began in 1969, when the property was purchased by Jean Gautreau in 1969. It then consisted of only 7 hectares and in the last 30 years Jean Gautreau has expanded the vineyards to 57 hectares.  Chateau Sociando Mallet is an Cru Bourgeois property located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne in the Haut-Médoc.

The Bordeaux growing region extends over around two thirds of the Gironde department (no wine is grown except in the south and towards the sea) with an area of ​​105 by 130 kilometers and a vineyard area of ​​113,000 hectares. The climate, characterized by the nearby Atlantic and the many rivers, is extremely favorable for viticulture. Summer is not too dry or hot, autumn is sunny and winter is mild. The predominantly barren and stony gravel soil means that the roots of the vines have to dig up to ten meters deep into the ground to find water. This makes it easier to survive both dry periods and rainy periods (drainage promoted by gravel soil). The stony ground also serves as a heat reservoir.

A neighbouring estate of Lanessan, Château Lachesnaye is currently owned by the Bouteiller family as well in the commune of Cussac near Fort Médoc. Domaine de Lachesnaye, a former seigneurial land in the parish of Sainte Gemme, belonged in 1793 to the Caupène family, who had inherited it from Sire de La Chesnaye. The estate was bought by Frédéric Exshaw in 1880, who had a château built resembling that of Lanessan. Weakened by the economic crisis of 1929, and frosts of 1945 and 1956, the estate was acquired by Jean Bouteiller in 1961, and a large proportion of the vines were replanted. Château Lachesnaye resumed wine production in 1971.

The vineyard area extends 20 hectares (49 acres), planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot.
