Wine grape variety Chardonnay
Chardonnay needs deep, chalky soils in prime locations. In Burgundy, France, the best vineyards are in Montrachet, Meursault and Corton-Charlemagne.
Typical aromas are melon, exotic fruits, ripe gooseberries. The aging in wooden barrels adds nuances of honey and nut.

The family winery of the 7th generation of the Barton family is located in the municipal appellation of Saint-Julien in the Médoc, not far from the Gironde. Thomas Barton, originally from Ireland, immigrated to Bordeaux in 1722 and founded a wine trade. His grandson Hugh Barton had to leave France after a short imprisonment in 1793 during the French Revolution. He tried unsuccessfully to acquire Château Lafite for over 15 years. Finally, in 1821 he bought the Château Langoa, which he renamed to its current name, and in 1826 a neighboring part of the Cháteau Léoville, which was now called Château Léoville-Barton. Today Anthony Barton and his daughter Lilian Barton Sartorius run the wineries. The wines of both estates are produced on Langoa-Barton.
In the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Langoa-Barton received third place (Troisième Cru Classé). The 17 hectares of vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). The extremely long-lasting red wine is aged for 24 months in 50% new oak barrels.

The first owner of the famous Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou was the eponymous Ducru family in the 17th century, the second part of the name is derived from the pebble floor: beau caillou = beautiful pebble. In 1941 it was bought by Francis Borie. Jean-Eugène Borie, who died in 1998, expanded it into a top winery. Today it is run by his grandson François Xavier. In the Bordeaux Classification in 1855 it received the second rank of Deuxième Cru Classé. The vineyards with 50 hectares of vines are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The extremely long-lasting red wine is aged for 18 to 20 months in half new oak barrels. He is considered one of the so-called “super seconds” that would deserve the Premier Cru Classé.
The legendary winery is located in the Saint-Julien area. St.Julien is one of the six famous municipalities (along with Listrac-Médoc, Margaux, Moulis, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe) within the French region of Haut-Médoc, which are their own appellations and are allowed to bear the place name on the label. The soils consist of a thin layer of gravel with sandy loess on an iron-rich subsoil with marl and gravel. The tannin-rich and long-lasting red wines are in style between those from Margaux (Finesse) and Pauillac (Power); They are characterized by consistently high quality across the entire range.
