Cannubi (or Canubio) is the oldest and most important vineyard in Barolo. The best Barolo wines were originally simply called Canubi when they came from this vineyard. The 15-hectare, elongated south-facing slope lies above the municipality of Barolo. Limestone-marl-sand soils produce very elegant wines with silky tannins. The vineyards are currently owned by 18 winemakers.
Damilano is one of few traditional wine makers in Barolo. 1890 Giuseppe Borgogno, the great-grandfather of the current owners, started farming and making wine from the family-owned vineyard in Barolo. Giacomo Damilano, the founder’s son-in-law, gave the current name to the winery. He gave the impuls to preserve the ancient vines and improve constant innovations in cellar to give a high quality to their Barolo, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo.

Pernand Vergelesses is typical Burgundy - and typically complicated. On the one hand, it refers to the village appellation in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune region. Added to the village name Pernand is the designation for the best vineyard "Les Vergelesses" with 18 hectares of vineyards. However, part of it also belongs to the neighbouring municipality of Savigny-lès-Beaune. Les Hervelets is one of the fine 1er Cru locations in Fixin. The Fixin appellation is located in the very north of Burgundy and is part of the Côte de Nuits. The center is the village of the same name, Fixin. The majority of the 300 hectares of vineyards fall under the simpler quality designation Côte de Nuits-Villages, only 100 belong to the Fixin appellation and 22 hectares are 1er Cru locations. The vineyards in the south of the area border the famous Gevrey-Chambertin wine region. The vineyards are mostly oriented in a south-easterly direction. They consist of limestone formations with the beautiful names Lias, Dogger and Malm (black, brown and white Jura). The escarpment to the Saône plain offers the best terroir. The predominant grape variety is Pinot Noir for fine, dry red wines.

German most famous and oldest viticulture is the „Steilhange“, steep slopes along the Mosella river. No wonder that Weingut Milz can praise such a long winemaking tradition and history. Since 1520, the Milz family has been known as great winemakers in Trittenheim, a wine village in the well-known Moselschleife. Parts of the original 1680 wine cellar are today still visible. Milz’s wines are quite classic Riesling from the Mosel, since they present the ideal alcohol level, delicatesugar residue and an extremely long finish. The dry red wine is produced in the Piedmont region in an area of the Langhe immediately to the east of Alba and specifically in the comunes of Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive plus that area of the frazione San Rocco. The soils of Barbaresco zone are composed primarily of calcareous marl dating from the Tortonian epoch. Treis is located south of Barbaresco, with vineyards on the highest hilltop sites in the area, Treiso wines are principally known for their finesse.

The classical dry red wine comes from the Barolo DOC in Northern Italy, the most important wine region of Piedmont. Prior to the mid-19th century, Barolo was a sweet wine. The fact that the Nebbiolo grape ripens late in October meant that temperatures would be steadily dropping by harvest. By November and December, temperatures in the Piedmont region would be cold enough to halt fermentation, leaving a significant amount of residual sugar left in the wine. In the mid-19th century the French enologist Louis Oudart improve the winemaking techniques of the local producers. Using techniques focusing on improving the hygiene of the cellar, Oudart was able to ferment the Nebbiolo must completely dry, making the first modern Barolo. This new, dry red wine soon became a favorite among the nobility of Turin and the ruling House of Savoy, giving rise to the popular description of Barolo as the wine of kings, the king of wines.
