Valtellina, the valley of the upper reaches of the Adda River, is one of the most important wine-growing areas in Lombardy. The Pommard appellation, named after the municipality of the same name, with 313 hectares of vineyards is located in the Côte de Beaune part of the Burgundian Côte d'Or. The Rheingau vineyard Rauenthaler Steinmächer has loess and loess clay soils that produce wines with liveliness and spice.
