Fine, elegant wine in small bottles from 3.5 hectares of vines on sandy loam soil with a high Cabernet Franc content of 30% (in addition to the obligatory Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon). Yield reduction, green harvest, barrique ageing.

To the north-east of Saint Emilion are four communes which are identified as separate appellations by their place names. Like the wines of St.Emilion, this classic Bordeaux is also characterised by the Merlot grape variety.

SW16566 2019 Rioja Crianza Hacienda Lopez de Haro
Rioja

Beautiful Crianza with present fruit, pleasant acidity and well-integrated wood.
The Hacienda López de Haro is located in the heart of the Rioja Alta, near the historic town of San Vincente de la Sonsierra, one of the places with the longest wine-growing tradition. The region offers the best conditions for the Tempranillo grape variety. The vineyards are protected in the north by the Toloño Mountains, the climate in the south is positively influenced by the Ebro River. The Bodegas has 5000 barriques in which the red wines acquire elegance and softness.

The northern Spanish wine-growing region of La Rioja stretches along the Ebro River. The vineyards are cultivated on calcareous and clayey soils. The red wines from Rioja are traditionally always a cuvée, i.e. a blend of different grape varieties. The most important is Tempranillo, followed by Garnacha Tinta (fr. Grenache Noir), Mazuelo (fr. Carignan) and Graciano.

The House of Kessler has always stuck to traditional methods, and used the same bottle fermentation technique. All the top sparkling wines are made according to the méthode traditionelle that the company founder, Georg Christian von Kessler, brought from the Champagne region to Germany exactly 190 years ago. Some of the production is still stored in medieval maturation cellars, where they are shaken by hand.

The first vineyards in the area were founded by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, Bourg was a major port for wine and the vineyards developed at the same tempo as the estuary traffic. Red Côtes de Bourg are garnet in colour and are predominantly based on the Merlot grape, blended with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. SW14364 2019 Chateau Haute Fonrousse
Bordeaux - Monbazillac

The name "Between Two Seas" of the 23,000-hectare area in the southeast of the French region of Bordeaux derives from the location between the two rivers (not actually seas) Garonne and Dordogne. The predominantly clay and gravel soil is particularly suitable for white wines. They are made from the Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Muscadelle and Ugni Blanc varieties. Monbazillac is an independent appellation of the area and produces noble sweet white wines that are close to those from Sauternes.
The noble sweet wine is based on a method developed in the 18th century in the Rhineland (Trockenbeerenauslese) and Hungary (Tokaj) of handpicking grapes infected with grey mould rot (botrytis cinerea) one by one. The vines grown are 60% Sémillon, 10% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Muscadelle.

SW14054 2019 Essentielle Rosé Domaine des Masques
Côtes de Provence

The Domaine des Masques is located 550 m above sea level on the Cengle plateau, protected by the Sainte-Victoire mountain range with an overwhelming panoramic view over the whole valley, completely secluded from the rest of the world. The name comes from the Provençal word for witch, because numerous medicinal plants thrive on the high plateau, which were used generations ago by herbalists and by so-called 'witches', Provençal 'Masco'. Today, this precious domain is managed by Carl and Sophie Mestdagh while preserving Provençal culture and tradition. They work together with the renowned oenologist Yves Cuilleron from Burgundy, who shapes the style of the wines. Of the 195 hectares, only 20 hectares are vineyards and the rest are olive groves, lavender fields and garrigue. A lot of free space for nature and no use of pesticides, herbicides and artificial fertilizers is the philosophy of the owners.

SW16053 2019 Cerasuolo di Vittoria Vigna di Pettineo
Sicilia

Cerasuolo di Vittoria is the DOCG wine of the Vittoria wine region in Sicily and, for me, is one of the most elegant wines of southern Italy. Classically, Frappato contributes freshness, fruitiness and acidity to Ceraluolo di Vittoria in combination with the full-bodied Nero d'Avola. The typical grape variety distribution is 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Frappato. Here the ratio is 50/50, which gives the wine precision. The Maggio winery works organically according to Demeter guidelines and produces fruit, grain and vegetables in addition to wine. The orange trees and narrow wheat fields at the edge of the vineyards also serve the purpose of shielding the vines from conventionally working neighbours.

Sicily is considered the cradle of Italian viticulture. Many of today's autochthonous grapes are descended from the ancient grape varieties cultivated at that time.

Individuality is our favorite quality in wine: each year, the same grapes can give very different wines according to the climate, and then the winemaker will also slightly alter the taste of that specific wine, choosing to let the bunch of grapes ripening in the sun one more day or choosing the fermentation technique he prefers, the oak barrel or the stainless steel barrel. Either way, passion is the essential ingredient to make a fine and original wine. That is exactly what Erwin Poller has got: passion and commitment to his authenitic project. He is a master at producing excellent wines and a mindful narrator of the stories behind each bottle of wine. The peculiar labels of his bottles cleverly serve this purpose: telling a unique story of enthusiasm and originality.

A feather! Dozens of chickens scratch and peck among the Valtellina vineyards. They freeliy come from the nearby henhouse and Erwin Poller figured out that they can represent a blessing for the calcareous soil: when the chickens stroll through the vineyard they loosen and turn the soil and help areate it. And since no thing should be wasted, Poller collects the chicken feathers off the ground and uses them to decorate his bottles.

Fine wine, friendship, respect and individuality: these are the reasons that led us to choose Poller as the representative of Austrian wines in our shop.

SW12182 2017 Reuilly Pinot Noir Jacques Rouze
Loire - Reuilly

The hilltops of Sancerre vineyards spread through 14 villages. The two grape varieties  in Sancerre are the Sauvignon Blanc and the Pinot Noir. They have gained the AOC status in 1936. The red and rosé wines, made from the noble Pinot Noir, followed in 1959 when they were awarded the AOC accreditation.

The red wines illustrate the virtues of Pinot Noir. They offer a bouquets of cherry and morellos.

In the 12th century, cultivation of vines was given added impetus through the combined efforts of the Augustine monks in St-Satur and the ruling counts of Sancerre. At that time Sancerre was famous for its red wine, produced predominantly from the Pinot Noir grape, and exported from the region along the Loire. This wine is often mentioned in accounts of life at the royal court. The famous wine of Sancerre was, in the opinion of Duke Jean de Berry, indeed the finest wine to be found in the entire kingdom.

Weingut Höfling is a family-owned winery in Eußenheim situated to the Northwest of Würzburg. Almost all of their vineyards are present on slopes and hilly terrain, and most of all of the work in the vineyards is by hands.  The people in the winery work very hard and with a commitment to produce unique Franconian wines that show the qualities of the region. So they uses domestic wood and hometown barrels and like the most prized Franken wines were traditionally bottled in a Bocksbeutel, a squat green or brown flagon with a round body, is by Höfling too.

SW16568 2017 Rioja Reserva Hacienda Lopez de Haro
Rioja

In 1844 Luciano Francisco Ramòn de Murrieta, returned to his home near Logrono in Rioja from England, where he  developed an appreciation for wine, recognized that there was nothing wrong with the grapes growing in Rioja's vineyards. The only problem was that the wine was not being produced correctly. Determined to obtain sufficient knowledge on winemaking to make a good modern wine, he went to Bordeaux, where he studied both grape growing and winemaking techniques. Four years later, he began producing wine in Rioja using local grapes, mostly Garnacha and Tempranillo, the 1852 vintage being the first of what today is considered traditional Rioja, a red aged in oak casks, marked by the taste of both fruit and wood, and possessing the potential for extended cellaring.

SW16514 2018 Etna Rosso Norma
Sicilia - Etna

The Valenti winery is relatively young. It was only founded in 2004 and newly planted on almost 30 hectares. The soils are among the best on Mount Etna and in Sicily in general - Passopisciaro in the municipality of Castiglione di Sizilia. Etna Rosso is a DOC for dry red wines in the Italian region (island) Sicily. Sicily is considered the cradle of Italian viticulture in general. Many of today's autochthonous grapes descend from the ancient grape varieties cultivated at the time. Sicilian wines are mainly based on two of these traditional grape varieties: Nerello Mascalese at Etna Rosso and Nero d'Avola. The Etna wines are reminiscent of Pinot Noir or even more of German Pinot Noir - mineral, with fresh cherry fruit and careful aging in wood.
In the "Storia die Vini d'Italia" (History of the Wines of Italy), published in 1596, wines from here are mentioned and their exceptional quality attributed to the fly ash blown in from Mount Etna.
The grape varieties used are 80% Nerello Mascalese and 20% Nerello Cappuccio.

SW11505 2017 Vette di San Leonardo
Alto Adige - Trentino

More than 1000 years ago, it was a monastery, but for over 3 centuries now San Leonardo has served as the residence of the Marquis Guerrieri Gonzaga family, its proud custodians. Today, the San Leonardo estate is a garden of vineyards and roses, protected by the massive barrier of the Alps, which blunt the force of the cold northern winds, while the valley floor benefits from, and in turn releases, warmth from nearby Lake Garda. The Tenuta remains an ancient world, in which winemaking practices, still uncompromisingly artisanal, yield wines that are true gems of Italy’s wine tradition, marked by freshness, harmony, and an innate elegance.

SW14636 2019 Sancerre Rouge Domaine Francois Millet Bué
Loire - Sancerre

SW15530 2019 Chianti Classico Vignole
Toscana - Chianti

The Tenuta di Vignole winery is located in Panzano, in the heart of Chianti Classico. With an area of 21 hectares, 14 of which are reserved for specialised vineyards, the farm is located in the valley of the river Pesa, better known in the Panzano area as "La Conca d'Oro" because of the high quality of the wines produced there, at an altitude of between 290 and 320 metres and extends on both sides of a hill facing south-east and south-west. Today, the company practices agriculture based on the principles of naturalness and sustainability. To protect the environment and maintain quality, no synthetic chemicals are used: better quality soil, better quality wine. Vignole Chianti Classico is a blend of Sangiovese (90%) and Merlot (10%) grapes, harvested by hand (Merlot at the end of September and Sangiovese at the beginning of October). The grapes are vinified separately in cement vats, with a 15-day maceration on the skins. The wines are aged separately for 12 months, the Sangiovese in medium oak barrels and the Merlot in small French barrels. After blending, the wine is aged in the bottle for another 12 months before release.
