Château Meyney is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. In 1662, it was a Convent mentioned in records under the name Prieuré des Couleys. The estate belonged to the Luetkens family for several generations, and was then acquired by Mr Désiré Cordier in 1919.
Today, the estate stretches over some of the best hilltops above the Gironde Estuary. The vineyard of 51 hectares is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 30% et Petit Verdot 10%.

The red grape variety Primitivo is mainly cultivated in the southern Italian region of Apulia. The Hermitage Hill was formed in the Ice Age when the Rhône broke through this eastern extension of the Massif Central following a rapid fall in sea level. Despite its small size, the Hermitage is geologically very diverse. In the highest, western part, the soil consists of granite, which weathers into fine clay. The eastern, larger part of the slope, on the other hand, is formed in the middle by rubble made of sand and limestone that the Rhône had transported from the Alps. At the foot of the slope there are younger sediments from the Würme Ice Age. The highest points are again covered with loess. To protect the thin layers of soil from slipping, walls made of limestone were built.
