Pinot gris (French) is a white wine grape variety. Ruländer is the name under which the grape variety is classified in Germany, Grauer Burgunder and Grauburgunder are permissible synonyms for German wines of this variety. The strange name of the Wasseros vineyard plot refers to spring areas that emerge from the ground in many places. Such places were referred to as water horses in old cadastral locations as early as 1610 and gave this area in Kiedrich its name. The respect Fieuzal has for its soil goes back over 400 years, when it was farmed by a handful of winegrowers. Chateau La Lagune in Ludon, is the first major estate you reach when you travel from Bordeaux through famous Route du Vin. Known in pre-revolutionary times as Chateau Séguineau, after the family who owned it, La Lagune was acquired in 1819 by Jouffrey Piston and in 1855 was classed as troisième cru. The 28.5 ha estate of Chateau Rauzan-Gassies stretches 28 km northwest of Bordeaux across the communes of Margaux and Cantenac. Rauzan Gassies was founded in 1661 and separated as a small part from its namesake Rausan Segla just over a century later as a result of the French Revolution. Rauzan Gassies is situated on the 20 metre thick gravel bed near the Gironde, close to Château Margeaux and other 2eme and 3eme grands crus classés. Châteaux Malescot St Exupery is a 3ème Cru Classé, located in the appellation of Margaux. In 1697 the land and chateau was sold by the Louise Ecoisses to Simon Malescot, King's Counsel to Louis XIV at the Parliament of Bordeaux.
