Description of the product
Pinot gris (French) is a white wine grape variety. Ruländer is the name under which the grape variety is classified in Germany, Grauer Burgunder and Grauburgunder are permissible synonyms for German wines of this variety. Although the berry skin is reddish to red and gray in color, it is assigned to the white wine varieties. It is a rather difficult grape variety in terms of viticulture. The thin-skinned berries require very delicate processing, as their juice is released too early if the skin is damaged.
They also react strongly to climatic fluctuations (heat/cold). In cool wine-growing regions, only winegrowers who have good south-facing slopes with fertile, warm and sufficiently calcareous soil should think about planting this variety. In the 1970s, Ruländer were made with residual sweetness and often botrytis. The noble sweet Beerenauslese are among the very storable white wines.
