The name of the Klosterberg vineyard comes from the old connecting path that went from Eberbach Monastery via the abbey's properties in Kiedrich to the Klostermühle near Eltville, and which led through the vineyard plots as the “Closterweg”. The vines in this first location in the VdP grow on medium to deep, stony-gristy soils in the southwest with Devon slate and gneiss.

Aglianico is a DOC for red wine in the Italian region of Basilicata - incidentally, it is the only one in the region. The vineyards lie up to almost 700 metres above sea level on the slopes of the extinct volcano Monte Vulture, which gives the region its name, and are divided into around 1,000 small vineyards. Wine has been produced here since time immemorial and was served at aristocratic tables in the Middle Ages. The ruby to garnet-red wine, which is produced in Secco (dry) and Amabile (semi-sweet), is made from a single variety (100%) of Aglianico. The red grape variety was probably brought to Naples from Greece by the Phoenicians as early as the 7th century BC, as indicated by the name (ellenico = Hellenic). It is possible that the variety was used in the red version of the famous ancient wine Falerno. The early sprouting but late ripening variety requires fertile soils due to its strong growth and abundant yield, which it finds there on volcanic soil. It produces deep ruby-red, tannin-rich wines with a strong flavour.

Chianti is that part of Tuscany that is bordered to the north by the suburbs of Florence, to the east by the Chianti Mountains, to the south by the city of Siena and to the west by the valleys of the Pesa and Elsa rivers. The first notarial document in which the name Chianti appeared in reference to the wine produced in the zone dates to 1398. During the second half of the 19th century Baron Bettino Ricasoli who was an important Chianti producer and, in the same time, minister in Tuscany and then Prime Minister in the Kingdom of Italy, imposed his ideas: from that moment on Chianti should have been produced with 70% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 15% Malvasia.

In the year 1877, the cousins Leopoldo and Ilario Ruffino  developing their own small winery in a town near Florence, Pontassieve.  Ruffino become popular for their balanced and clean wines, embracing the motto “Here We Make Ideal Wine.” The status also of Ruffino family was also established firmly both internationally and nationally when its own Ruffino Chianti won the gold medal during the Milan Wine exhibition in the year 1881, and a consolation prize during the Nice Exhibition in 1884 and another one gold medal in Antwerp Exhibition in year 1885. Because of its success, the Duke of Aosta was tasted it in Pontassieve,  and declared the Ruffino winery of Leopoldo and Ilario as the authorized supplier of wines to the royal family in the Italy. Additionally, in the year 1927, Ruffino winery returned some of the honor given upon its world class wines by releasing its first vintage wine of Riserva Ducale, entitled for the Duke of Aosta.

The story begins in 1807, in Paris, when the Marquis of Barolo Carlo Tancredi Falletti married Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, a French noblewoman and the great granddaughter of the Minister of Finance Colbert by Luigi XIV . Juliette saw the great potential of the wine made in Barolo that, after a complete fermentation and a long aging in wood, would have been able to unveil all the qualities typical of the soil and of the grape variety: Nebbiolo. Since 1970, the Castello has been under local ownership. The winery estate, which is located at the center of Barolo, presently belongs to the Abbona family, which purchased in the late 19th century.  The original and distinguished wines produced by Marchesi di Barolo are characterized by a number of highly prestigious native vines and a unique soil composition, with amalgams of clay, limestone marl, blueish marl, tuff, sandstone and sand. In order to better define and enhance their different characteristics, the most prestigious historical crus are made from a single variety, and individually aged and bottled.

Terre del Barolo is the largest cooperative and the most well know top quality wines producer in Piedmont. The Terre del Barolo winery was founded on 8 December 1958 by 22 growers from various villages in the neighbourhood of Alba. Located in Castigione Falletto in the heart of the Langhe, the Cooperative brings together 450 wine growers who own650 hectares of vineyard located in the towns of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Cherasco, Diano d’Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte d’Alba, Novello, Serralunga d’Alba, Roddi and Verduno. The main wine produced is Barolo, which is aged in the cellars in precious casks made of Slavonian oak for a variable period of time, it depending on the vintage.
