Franschhoek is located in the South African province of Western Cape. The name of the village means "French Angle" and refers to its foundation in 1688, when several hundred emigrated Huguenots from France settled in the small village. In 1694, the French Huguenot Pierre Jourdan was given a farm, which he then christened Cabriere, named after his hometown in the south of France. In 1982, the estate was bought by Achim von Arnim.
The Franschhoek Valley is surrounded by mountains on three sides and receives late morning and long evening sun. This favours slow and balanced ripening, resulting in fruit-driven flavour profiles. The Chionetti family has linked its history to vines since the 19th century. The Pfannenstielhof looks back on a long and eventful history. First mentioned in a document in 1561, the farm has been owned by the Pfeifer family for seven generations since 1816 and is therefore considered a hereditary farm. The name of the Barbera Volpuva is linked to an anecdote. In Rosignano, Piedmont, it is the foxes that give the signal that it is time to harvest the Barbera: shrewd and attentive, they understand when the grapes have become ripe and steal them. Hence the name that links the fox to the grape. The Monferrato zone lays claim to being Barbera's birthplace, and records of it growing there as far back as the 13th century. This very high-yielding vine produces wines that are high in acidity and rather low in tannins. In the 1950s, the Clos des Menuts only covered one hectare of vineyards. Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Boyd-Cantenac was founded in 1754  by Jacques Boyd. After few years of the Classification the estate was divided into Boyd-Cantenac and Cantenac-Brown. Its 17 hectares of vineyards are located west of the village of Cantenac in the Margaux appellation. The soil is rocky-gravely and the vines are more than thirty five years old on average and are composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot.
It is one of the Crus still owned and operated by one family.

Hermitage is one of the famous Grand Cru on the Côte du Rhône and the Hermitage Gambert de Loche the best wine of cave de tain. The very elegant Syrah offers dark berry, spicy aromas with strong tannins and is very long-lasting.

The Hermitage Hill was formed in the Ice Age when the Rhône broke through this eastern extension of the Massif Central following a rapid fall in sea level. Despite its small size, the Hermitage is geologically very diverse. In the highest, western part, the soil consists of granite, which weathers into fine clay. The eastern, larger part of the slope, on the other hand, is formed in the middle by rubble made of sand and limestone that the Rhône had transported from the Alps. At the foot of the slope there are younger sediments from the Würme Ice Age. The highest points are again covered with loess. To protect the thin layers of soil from slipping, walls made of limestone were built. The name of the extremely long-lasting red wine Hermitage goes back to a hermitage founded in 1224 (Hermitage = hermit).

Brunello di Montalcino is a DOCG for dry red wine in the Italian region of Tuscany.
