Three excellent wines of the Bordeaux region - all Grand Cru Classé from Saint Emilion for the vintage 1958.
The tasting of 65 years through single steps is a charming present for any wine lover.
Wine experts love these kind of vertical wine tastings: they emphasize the different phases of these valuable wines, and how their color and taste both change when ripening.
1995=28 years + 2001=22 years + 2008=15 years = 65 years !
The most interesting thing is the wine-tasting of a vertical which has wines with the same characteristic. Just like these classified Grand Cru Classé wines, from St. Emilion.
Thanks to the wine vertical for the 65th jubilation, you can elegantly avoid a true dichotomy. In fact, any proud owner of a bottle from his birth date asks himself if he really wants to open the wine bottle, or if he preferably keeps it in his wine vault. With the wine vertical, you can taste the last 65 years, step after step.

Recognition of DOCG status came in 1980. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano production zone comprises the land belonging to the municipal area of Montepulciano in the province of Siena, a particularly favourable location on the hilly ridge between Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia. The land in this production zone is at altitudes of between 250 and 580 metres a.s.l. and the quality of the wines produced here is largely influenced by its climactic and geological features. The grapes are from 70% of Prugnolo Gentile, a type of Sangiovese, and the rest is Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Mammolo, other locally and traditional grapes in Siena. The Gattavecchi family has dedicated itself to wine production for over a hundred years. By the 1950’s, Valente Gattavecchi was already going beyond the borders of Italy to introduce the best selection of Vino Nobile – refined in the ancient convent of Santa Maria dei Servi in Montepulciano.

The Barolo is defined as "the king of wines and the wine of kings'' because of its regal characteristics, and a star in the Italian enology. Barolo began acquiring its royal standing as early as the Middle Ages and its reputation steadily grew in succeeding periods. It was customary for sovereigns, as well as many nobles, to enrich their tables with classic Bordelais or Burgundian bottles of the wine. It is reported that Barolo was often found on the table of Louis XIV, while other admirers of the wine included King Charles Albert, the Marquises of Saluzzo and of Monferrato and Maria Cristina of Savoy. At the beginning of the 19th century, Pius VII exclaimed, after having tasted an excellent Barolo: "Ah, La Morra! A beautiful sky and good wine!'' Afterward, he ensured that the wine was always available at his court and he drank it frequently.

Patriarche is one of the most important wine houses in Burgundy and on the Rhône. It was founded as early as 1780 and has 5km of vaulted cellars under the town of Beaune. The Pommard appellation, named after the municipality of the same name, with 313 hectares of vineyards is located in the Côte de Beaune part of the Burgundian Côte d'Or. It connects to the municipality of Volnay. The Cistercians owned vineyards here as early as the 12th century. The clergyman Claude Arnoux (1695-1770) described this wine in his famous book. The Domaine Morin Pere et Fils has vineyards mainly in Volnay (where the winery is also located) and with a small part in Pommard. The municipal appellation Volnay, named after the place of the same name, with 226 hectares of vineyards is located in the Côte de Beaune area on the Burgundian Côte d'Or between the municipalities of Pommard and Meursault. Red wines are produced almost exclusively from Pinot Noir with proportions of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault, which are among the best in Burgundy. The Cistercians already owned vineyards here in the 14th century and were very popular with the Dukes of Burgundy, who had a castle here at the time. Claude Arnoux (1695-1770) begins his famous book on Burgundy wines with a Latin hymn of praise for the wines of Volnay, in which he describes them as "partridge coloured" and the best wines of the Côte de Beaune. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the wine from this commune was one of the favorites of the Bourbons and the aristocracy as a whole.

The classical dry red wine comes from the Barolo DOC in Northern Italy, the most important wine region of Piedmont. Prior to the mid-19th century, Barolo was a sweet wine. The fact that the Nebbiolo grape ripens late in October meant that temperatures would be steadily dropping by harvest. By November and December, temperatures in the Piedmont region would be cold enough to halt fermentation, leaving a significant amount of residual sugar left in the wine. In the mid-19th century the French enologist Louis Oudart improve the winemaking techniques of the local producers. Using techniques focusing on improving the hygiene of the cellar, Oudart was able to ferment the Nebbiolo must completely dry, making the first modern Barolo. This new, dry red wine soon became a favorite among the nobility of Turin and the ruling House of Savoy, giving rise to the popular description of Barolo as the wine of kings, the king of wines.

The classical dry red wine comes from the appellation Graves, Pessac Leognan in Médoc. Graves (from French: gravelly land) is an important subregion of the Bordeaux wine region. Graves is situated on the left bank of the Garonne river, in the upstream part of the region, southeast of the city Bordeaux. The name Graves derives from ist intensely gravelly soil. The soil is the result of glaciers from the Ice Age, which also left white quartz deposits that can still be found in the soil of some of the top winemaking estates. Typical for the left bank wines (Médoc) is the blend of grapes with Cabernet Sauvignon as the predominant grape. The others are Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

Chateau de Sales is one of the very few chateaux of Bordeaux that has been always family owned since 1464. With its 90 hectares surface area including 47.4 hectares of vineyard, it is the biggest estate of the appellation of Pomerol. The gravel and sandy soil gives suppleness and elegance to the two wines made there, Chateau de Sales and Chateau Chantalouette. The classical dry red wine comes from the appellation Pomerol in Bordeaux. The wines of Pomerol have a high composition of Merlot in their blends are considered the most gentle and least tannic and acidic of Bordeaux wines. Cabernet Franc, known in this area as Bouchet is the second leading grape and helps to contribute to the dark, deep coloring that is typical of Pomerol wines.

Classic old vintage port. The 1958 Port matured purposefully and reliably in wooden barrels and was bottled in 1988 - as is usual with trustworthy producers, this information is also on the label.
Port is the name given to a sweet wine originating exclusively from the Douro Valley. The name comes from the port city of Porto, from which port was shipped mainly to England from the end of the 17th century.
In the 17th century, the idea was developed to stop the fermentation of the wine by adding 80 percent wine distillate. This stopped the sugar from fermenting further and the wine retained its sweetness. Through this so-called fortification, port has an alcohol content of between 19 and 22 percent by volume and is more durable.
After the Tawny Port has been stored for a good two years under exclusion of air in the large barrel, it is transferred to a small wooden barrel, the pipa, with a capacity of 550 litres. Here it breathes (oxidises) more strongly and changes its colour to tawny. The contact with the wood also changes the taste to aromas of nuts, dried fruit, etc. Standard tawnies are filtered and bottled after 6-7 years.
Port is usually available as a vintageless fortified wine. Only exceptionally good vintages, such as 1958, are declared as vintage Port and allow the production of a Tawny Port or even a Vintage Port, i.e. a vintage Port.
