The Gross winery in southern Styria has an excellent reputation. his Yellow Muscat from the Ried Perz can be counted among the best and longest-lasting that this grape variety can produce. German most famous and oldest viticulture is the „Steilhange“, steep slopes along the Mosella river. No wonder that Weingut Milz can praise such a long winemaking tradition and history. Since 1520, the Milz family has been known as great winemakers in Trittenheim, a wine village in the well-known Moselschleife. Parts of the original 1680 wine cellar are today still visible. This unusual configuration is a direct inheritance from the estate’s founder, Pierre Ducasse, an eminent lawyer. In the 18th century he gave a single name to a fine vineyard holding, which was put together through inheritance and purchases. When he died in 1797, his son, Pierre, inherited a 60-hectare exploitation, named Ducasse-Grand-Puy-Artigues-Arnaud, of which two third were planted with vines. The estate was classified in 1855, under the name of Artigues Arnaud.

Chateau La Lagune in Ludon, is the first major estate you reach when you travel from Bordeaux through famous Route du Vin. Known in pre-revolutionary times as Chateau Séguineau, after the family who owned it, La Lagune was acquired in 1819 by Jouffrey Piston and in 1855 was classed as troisième cru. The Gevrey Chambertin appellation covers 405 hectares on a hillside and is one of the most important red wine-growing zones of the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. The municipal appellations are at 240 to 280 meters above sea level, the Premier Crus and Grand Crus, as is mostly the case in Burgundy, at 260 to 320 meters above sea level. Gevrey Chambertin is home to 26 Premier Crus and 9 Grand Crus. The noble grape variety Pinot Noir comes into its own here. It was Napoleon's favorite wine.

Hermitage is one of the famous Grand Cru on the Côte du Rhône. The very elegant Syrah offers dark berry, spicy aromas with strong tannins and is very long-lasting.

The Hermitage Hill was formed in the Ice Age when the Rhône broke through this eastern extension of the Massif Central following a rapid fall in sea level. Despite its small size, the Hermitage is geologically very diverse. In the highest, western part, the soil consists of granite, which weathers into fine clay. The family winery of the 7th generation of the Barton family is located in the municipal appellation of Saint-Julien in the Médoc, not far from the Gironde. Thomas Barton, originally from Ireland, immigrated to Bordeaux in 1722 and founded a wine trade. His grandson Hugh Barton had to leave France after a short imprisonment in 1793 during the French Revolution. He tried unsuccessfully to acquire Château Lafite for over 15 years.
