Wine 1968
Each vintage of aged wine reflects the conditions under which it was born. French wines from 1968 are very rare today. During the important growth phase it was too humid, too cool and too windy. The winegrowers could hardly work economically. The effort to produce good wines in the vintage 1968 was immense. ... Italy fared much better. In Piedmont, excellent Barolo and Barbaresco of the year 1968 were stored in the wine cellars.
A real old and drinkable wine from 1968. Every wine lover is fascinated by a perfectly aged and rare red wine with a world-famous origin.

Wine vertical
A bottle of wine of the year 1968 is a rarity and unique finding. The taste of the wine, which is defined by its old age, can be on the limit of enjoyment for some. Therefore, an interesting alternative to buying a wine as old as ones anniversary, can be to recreate the years of the jubilee with three younger wine bottles, which together are as old. The tasting of the years through single steps is a charming present for any wine lover. Wine experts love these kind of vertical wine tastings: they emphasize the different phases of these valuable wines, and how their color and taste both change when ripening.- 1940

Grignolino hails from Piedmont in Northern Italy, a region known for its powerful and hugely tannic red wines made from the Nebbiolo grape. Grignolino wine is obtained from the vine of the same name. Its name originates from the word “grignole”, in Piedmont dialect used to indicate the grape-seeds inside the grapes. According to another theory its origin is connected to the Italian verb “grignè”, this again in dialect means to laugh.

Sardinia’s best known red grape is Cannonau, a relative of the Granacha grape that originally came from Spain. The grape is grown all over this island, a special variety of what is generally known as grenache, producing explosive, potent wines. The great majority of the vineyards, and the highest-quality wines, are produced in a triangle that stretches along an idyllic coastline from Orosei to Bari Sardo, and into the wild mountainous interiors as far as Atzara. As Sardinia's foremost wine producer, Sella & Mosca is renowned for premium wines made exclusively from estate-grown grapes. Selected portions of the Sella & Mosca estate's Cannonau vineyards with clay and sand soils, near Alghero in the northwest corner of Sardinia.

The Kiedricher Heiligenstock vineyard takes its name from the old Gothic crucifix that has served as a cross in the vineyard since the 14th century. The location includes the famous individual vineyards Gräfenberg, Turmberg, Wasseros, Klosterberg and Sandgrub.
Riesling is the typical white grape variety of Germany. Characteristic fruit and a pronounced acidity create a lively balance in a good Riesling. You often think you can recognize the origins of a Riesling straight away. The most famous are the Riesling vineyards of the Rheingau and the Moselle. The wines are very long-lived.

The story begins in 1807, in Paris, when the Marquis of Barolo Carlo Tancredi Falletti married Juliette Colbert de Maulévrier, a French noblewoman and the great granddaughter of the Minister of Finance Colbert by Luigi XIV . Juliette saw the great potential of the wine made in Barolo that, after a complete fermentation and a long aging in wood, would have been able to unveil all the qualities typical of the soil and of the grape variety: Nebbiolo. Since 1970, the Castello has been under local ownership. The winery estate, which is located at the center of Barolo, presently belongs to the Abbona family, which purchased in the late 19th century. The original and distinguished wines produced by Marchesi di Barolo are characterized by a number of highly prestigious native vines and a unique soil composition, with amalgams of clay, limestone marl, blueish marl, tuff, sandstone and sand. In order to better define and enhance their different characteristics, the most prestigious historical crus are made from a single variety, and individually aged and bottled.

The very traditional winery Bodegas Martinez Bujanda was founded back in 1889 and today has an extremely modern wine cellar and vineyards in the Rioja regions of Alavesa, Alta and Baja. The 1968 Grand Reserva is a so-called late bottling from the barrel.
In 1844 Luciano Francisco Ramòn de Murrieta, returned to his home near Logrono in Rioja from England, where he developed an appreciation for wine, recognized that there was nothing wrong with the grapes growing in Rioja's vineyards. The only problem was that the wine was not being produced correctly. Determined to obtain sufficient knowledge on winemaking to make a good modern wine, he went to Bordeaux, where he studied both grape growing and winemaking techniques. Four years later, he began producing wine in Rioja using local grapes, mostly Garnacha and Tempranillo, the 1852 vintage being the first of what today is considered traditional Rioja, a red aged in oak casks, marked by the taste of both fruit and wood, and possessing the potential for extended cellaring.

If you were to ask wine connoisseurs from all over the world whether there is a classic top wine from Germany and which one it would be, the answer would be Riesling. The classic Riesling region of Germany is the Rheingau growing region. The Hochheimer Berg has loess loams and loess with more or less gravelly tertiary marls. The wines from this vineyard are elegant with a fine acidity. The Hessian state wineries Kloster Eberbach have cultivation areas in the Rheingau and the Hessische Bergstrasse and are the largest winery in Germany with 235 hectares of cultivation area. It belongs to the Association of German Predicate and Quality Wineries (VDP). The owner is the state of Hesse and the headquarters is in Eltville am Rhein. The origin of the state wineries is the Eberbach Monastery, which was founded in 1136 by Bernhard von Clairvaux as a branch of the Cistercians. During secularization it became the property of the Duke of Nassau and in 1866 it became the property of Prussia, who added large areas of vineyards. The winery became a model business.
