The Rheingau single vineyard Kiedricher Sandgrub has a southerly orientation with only a slight slope and therefore gets a lot of sun. The soils mostly consist of deep loess and loess loam, which are also interspersed with gravel and sand - hence the name. A special feature is that tertiary limestone occurs again and again, producing fine Rieslings with elegant acidity. The Kiedricher Sandgrub is now in the VdP 1st Lage (Premier Cru).

Nebbiolo is a red Italian wine grape variety predominantly associated with the Piedmont region where it makes the wines of Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo and Gattinara. Nebbiolo does not adapt exceptionally well to various vineyard soil types, preferring soils with high concentration of calcareous marl such as those found on the right bank of the Tanaro river around Alba where the finest Barolo and Barbaresco are produced.

1984 Chateau Lafon Rochet

Chateau Lafon Rochet in St. Estephe dates back to the middle of the 17th century. The estate was founded In 1650. While many Bordeaux vineyards were confiscated during the French Revolution, that did not happen to Lafon Rochet. The Left Bank estate remained the property of the same family for more than two centuries. In 1959 the Tesseron family purchased the estate.
The 45 hectare vineyards of Lafon Rochet consists in one single, large parcel with three soil types, limestone, marl and clay. Chateau Lafon Rochet is located no far from Chateau Cos d’Estournel and Chateau Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac. The St. Estephe Bordeaux wine vineyard of Lafon Rochet is planted with 54% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
