Côtes de Bourg is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for Bordeaux wine situated around the small town of Bourg-sur-Gironde near Bordeaux, France. The first vineyards in the area were founded by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, Bourg was a major port for wine and the vineyards developed at the same tempo as the estuary traffic. Château Camensac borders on the Saint-Julien appellation, in the commune of Saint-Laurent-de-Médoc, surrounded by other excellent classed growths such as La Tour Carnet and Belgrave. Camensac means on the water's way, and comes from the words "camens", which means path or way and "ac", which means water in local dialect. In 1965 it was bought by the Forner brothers, who also own the well-known Marques de Carceres bodega in Rioja. Chateau Lafon Rochet in St. Estephe dates back to the middle of the 17th century. The estate was founded In 1650. The history of the Château Les Carmes Haut Brion winery dates back to the 16th century, when the owner of Château Haut Brion Jean de Pontac sold 4.7 hectares to the Carmelite Order - hence the name. After the French Revolution and secularization, ownership passed to the Chantecaille family. The soil conditions of the award-winning winery are similar to that of its more famous neighbor, Château Haut Brion.

The name Graves first appeared in the Middle Ages and derives from the gravelly soil (terre graveleuse). The pebbles are collected and placed next to the vines. This heat promotes the ripening process in a natural way and increases the sugar content of the grapes.
