Château Meyney is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. In 1662, it was a Convent mentioned in records under the name Prieuré des Couleys. The estate belonged to the Luetkens family for several generations, and was then acquired by Mr Désiré Cordier in 1919.
Today, the estate stretches over some of the best hilltops above the Gironde Estuary. The vineyard of 51 hectares is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 30% et Petit Verdot 10%.
The Cru Bourgeois classification lists some of the châteaux from the Médoc that were not included in the 1855 Classification of Crus Classés, or Classed Growths. Côtes de Bourg is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for Bordeaux wine situated around the small town of Bourg-sur-Gironde near Bordeaux, France. The first vineyards in the area were founded by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, Bourg was a major port for wine and the vineyards developed at the same tempo as the estuary traffic. Red Côtes de Bourg are garnet in colour and are predominantly based on the Merlot grape, blended with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Some Chateaux still use Malbec as part of the blend. The vine has been established in le Bourgeais for centuries and the current varieties have been selected because of their performance in relation to the soil. The Côtes de Bourg are characterized by the diversity and richness of their soils.
Although the Côtes de Bourg is composed of mainly clay and limestone soils, their make-up is so rich that there is a veritable mosaic of sand and gravel in the area around Pugnac. Three types are predominant. Firstly, the Sienna-red Quaternary alluvium that is quite specific to the region and situated more on the heights: Merlot and Malbec are widely cultivated. Merlot and Cabernet are planted on clay and sandy gravel soils while Merlot is also grown on the widespread areas of clay and limestone.

Château Meyney is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc. In 1662, it was a Convent mentioned in records under the name Prieuré des Couleys. The estate belonged to the Luetkens family for several generations, and was then acquired by Mr Désiré Cordier in 1919.
Today, the estate stretches over some of the best hilltops above the Gironde Estuary. The vineyard of 51 hectares is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Merlot 30% et Petit Verdot 10%.
The Cru Bourgeois classification lists some of the châteaux from the Médoc that were not included in the 1855 Classification of Crus Classés, or Classed Growths. Notionally, Cru Bourgeois is a level below Cru Classé, but still of high quality. Only nine Chateaux with Cru Bourgeois status take part of the higher level Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.

In 1610, the ancestors of the recent owner Meslin, the Gurchy family, were already winegrowers in Saint Emilion. In 1880 they founded the family estate of Laroze.

Château de Chelivette has existed since the 16th century near the communes of Ste Eulalie and St Loubes and has 29 hectares of prime hillside vineyards. Château Grand-Puy Ducasse was classified 5th growth in the famous 1855 classification. Three large plots in the best parts of Pauillac form the Pauillac, Grand Cru Classé en 1855 vineyard of this classified growth. This unusual configuration is a direct inheritance from the estate’s founder, Pierre
Ducasse, an eminent lawyer. In the 18th century he gave a single name to a fine vineyard holding, which was put together through inheritance and purchases. When he died in 1797, his son, Pierre, inherited a 60-hectare exploitation, named Ducasse-Grand-Puy-Artigues-Arnaud, of which two
third were planted with vines. The estate was classified in 1855, under the name of Artigues Arnaud.

In the 1950s, the Clos des Menuts only covered one hectare of vineyards. Today it extends to over 25 hectares, not far from the historic town of Saint Emilion and located mainly in the western part of the municipality. This wine is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The high proportion of Merlot is a consequence of the iron-containing sand-clay soil and can be compared to Pomerol.

The family winery of the 7th generation of the Barton family is located in the municipal appellation of Saint-Julien in the Médoc, not far from the Gironde. Thomas Barton, originally from Ireland, immigrated to Bordeaux in 1722 and founded a wine trade. His grandson Hugh Barton had to leave France after a short imprisonment in 1793 during the French Revolution. He tried unsuccessfully to acquire Château Lafite for over 15 years. Finally, in 1821 he bought the Château Langoa, which he renamed to its current name, and in 1826 a neighboring part of the Cháteau Léoville, which was now called Château Léoville-Barton. Today Anthony Barton and his daughter Lilian Barton Sartorius run the wineries. The wines of both estates are produced on Langoa-Barton. In the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Langoa-Barton received third place (Troisième Cru Classé). The 17 hectares of vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (72%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). The extremely long-lasting red wine is aged for 24 months in 50% new oak barrels.
