Brunello di Montalcino is a DOCG for dry red wine in the Italian region of Tuscany. Joseph Stanislas Gruaud was the owner of the Ténac, Sartaignac and Merle Crus in the 18th century. He united them in 1757 under the name of Gruaud . in 1771 he left the property  to Monsieur Jean-Sébastien de Larose.  In 1781, the name of the new owner was added to that of its predecessor. The Cru then became Gruaud Larose. Since 1855 it is a second cru classé that produces one of St-Julien`s most full-bodied and long-lived wines. For many years Gruaud-Larose was owned by the négociants Cordier, who also own Château Talbot. Gruaud-Larose's 84 hectares of vineyards are located on a gravel-rich plateau just to the west of Château Beychevelle. The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (8%) and Petit Verdot (2%).

The history of the Château Les Carmes Haut Brion winery dates back to the 16th century, when the owner of Château Haut Brion Jean de Pontac sold 4.7 hectares to the Carmelite Order - hence the name. After the French Revolution and secularization, ownership passed to the Chantecaille family.
