The prestigious and tiny appellation of Quarts de Chaume, a tiny AOC in the heart of the Chenin Blanc area of the Loire Valley, has been associated with the Laffourcade name for five decades. Chateau Troplong Mondot was in the 17th century the property of Abbé Raymond de Sèze. It was de Seze, who created in 1745 the chateau that remains at Troplong Mondot today. In 1850, Raymond Troplong became the owner of this Right Bank estate.
Troplong Mondot occupies great terroir. The 33 hectare vineyard lies on the slopes, at an elevation over 100 meters that allows views of the entire St. Emilion village. The soil consists of deep limestone deposits under layers of thick clay. There are also sedimentary fragments of flint and limestone.  In 2006 Chateau Troplong Mondot was awarded their well deserved promotion to Premier Grand Cru Classé B status, which was upheld in the recent 2012 St. Emilion classification. Due to their unique, cooler terroir, with large deposits of clay, Troplong Mondot is often one of the last, St. Emilion vineyards to be harvested.

Port is the name given to a sweet wine originating exclusively from the Douro Valley. The name comes from the port city of Porto, from which port was shipped mainly to England from the end of the 17th century.

In the 17th century, the idea was developed to stop the fermentation of the wine by adding 80 percent wine distillate. This stopped the sugar from fermenting further and the wine retained its sweetness. Through this so-called fortification, port has an alcohol content of between 19 and 22 percent by volume and is more durable.
After the Tawny Port has been stored for a good two years under exclusion of air in the large barrel, it is transferred to a small wooden barrel, the pipa, with a capacity of 550 litres. Here it breathes (oxidises) more strongly and changes its colour to tawny. The contact with the wood also changes the taste to aromas of nuts, dried fruit, etc. Standard tawnies are filtered and bottled after 6-7 years.
Port is usually available as a vintageless fortified wine. Only exceptionally good vintages, such as 1966, are declared as vintage Port and allow the production of a Tawny Port or even a Vintage Port, i.e. a vintage Port.

The Rausan-Ségla vineyard extends over 52 hectares at the gates of the village of Margaux: excellent exposure; a terroir of fine, deep gravel and clay; a typically Margaux grape variety (54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc) It all began in 1658. Pierre Rauzan (spelled either with a z or an s), a wealthy bourgeois who worked as a royal broker and wine merchant, leased the château and the barony of Margaux. The wines were ranked among the best second growths by Thomas Jefferson, who ordered 10 cases on 6 September 1790. The wines of Rauzan-Ségla were unanimously considered to be the best in the commune after those of Margaux.
