The Pommard appellation, named after the municipality of the same name, with 313 hectares of vineyards is located in the Côte de Beaune part of the Burgundian Côte d'Or.  In 1844 Luciano Francisco Ramòn de Murrieta, returned to his home near Logrono in Rioja from England, where he  developed an appreciation for wine, recognized that there was nothing wrong with the grapes growing in Rioja's vineyards. The classical dry red wine comes from the Barolo DOC in Northern Italy, the most important wine region of Piedmont. Prior to the mid-19th century, Barolo was a sweet wine. The fact that the Nebbiolo grape ripens late in October meant that temperatures would be steadily dropping by harvest. By November and December, temperatures in the Piedmont region would be cold enough to halt fermentation, leaving a significant amount of residual sugar left in the wine. Domaine Arlaud was created in 1942 with the marriage of Joseph Arlaud, a man from Ardèche, and Renée Amiot, a woman from a family with deep roots in the Burgundian wine culture. Chevalier's history is an integral part of its identity. Chateau La Lagune in Ludon, is the first major estate you reach when you travel from Bordeaux through famous Route du Vin. Known in pre-revolutionary times as Chateau Séguineau, after the family who owned it, La Lagune was acquired in 1819 by Jouffrey Piston and in 1855 was classed as troisième cru. After the First World War the property fell on hard times and the vineyard declined. It was acquired by Georges Brunet in 1954. He replanted the vineyard, but he sell up in 1962 . Third Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Boyd-Cantenac was founded in 1754  by Jacques Boyd. After few years of the Classification the estate was divided into Boyd-Cantenac and Cantenac-Brown. Its 17 hectares of vineyards are located west of the village of Cantenac in the Margaux appellation. The soil is rocky-gravely and the vines are more than thirty five years old on average and are composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Petit Verdot.

The famous and very old winery La Mission Haut Brion in Pessac (suburb of Bordeaux) is located in the municipal appellation of Pessac-Léognan in the Graves area. The origin dates back to around 1540. In the 17th century, the property was transferred to the Congregation of the Mission, until the inevitable expropriation during the French Revolution. The modern history of La Mission begins in 1919 with the acquisition by Frédéric Woltner, who completely renovated the estate. For a long time, Château La Mission Haut-Brion and the neighboring Château Haut-Brion were serious competitors, but since 1983 both wineries have merged into an inseparable entity with the sale of La Mission to Clarence Dillon, the owner of Haut-Brion. The vineyard area extends over 21 hectares and includes 45% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. One of the grandest, most imposing buildings amongst the Médoc châteaux, Château Margaux in ist current form was built in the early 19th century, although viticulture had been practised on the estate for several centuries before.
