Named after the town of Mâcon on the Sâone River, the area with around 5,400 hectares of vineyards is part of the Burgundy region. The Roman poet Ausonius (310-395) already mentioned the wines from this area. In the 11th and 12th centuries, the Cistercians planted vines here on a large scale. The area became famous in 1660 when the winemaker Claude Brosse delivered wine to Versailles and was noticed by the French “Sun King” Louis XIV (1638-1715) at a trade fair there because of its size. The king spoke to him, tasted his wine after mass and was so enthusiastic that the royal court was regularly supplied with it. The area stretches along the Sâone in a 15 kilometer long strip. There is also a place called Chardonnay here, suggesting that the grape variety may have originated in this area. The Mâconnais is best known for its juicy white wines made from Chardonnay with portions of Aligoté and Pinot Blanc, two-thirds of which cover the vineyards. Fine, fragrant Pinot Noir. The 4 hectares of vineyards for the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune are located about 1 km from Pommard at an altitude of 350 meters on a flat slope towards the southwest. The Domain Chatelain is family-owned for the 12th generation and stands for traditional white wines from Chablis and Pouilly Fumé. The name was particularly well known in the 1970s and 1980s and was considered a synonym for a dry white wine at that time. Red wines are produced almost exclusively from Pinot Noir with proportions of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault, which are among the best in Burgundy. The Cistercians already owned vineyards here in the 14th century and were very popular with the Dukes of Burgundy, who had a castle here at the time. Claude Arnoux (1695-1770) begins his famous book on Burgundy wines with a Latin hymn of praise for the wines of Volnay, in which he describes them as "partridge coloured" and the best wines of the Côte de Beaune. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the wine from this commune was one of the favorites of the Bourbons and the aristocracy as a whole.

Aloxe Corton is one of the most prestigious village appellations in Bourgogne. The famous Grand Cru location for red wine (98% of the vineyard area is planted with Pinot Noir) nearby consists of the vineyards of the mountain of the same name: Corton. The soil consists of a thin layer of brown limestone pebbles. The hilltop is not suitable for viticulture, but is covered by a forest that offers ideal protection to the vineyards below. Way of culture : ploughing, earthing up every 3 years. Harvested by hand, use of a table to select the grapes. Integrated pest control,

Vatting process : 50% of the grapes are not de-stemmed, this part is put down in the vat, the other 50% come on top of it. Maceration
at a low temperature during one week, natural yeast, the wine is kept in vats from 5 to 6 weeks at 30°C. Treading and pumping over
made according to the result of the daily tastings.
Maturing : the wine has remained 18 months in contact with fine lees in oak casks (30% of new barrels, 30% of 1-year-old barrels,
30% of over-3-year-old barrels). Barrels benefit from a 36-month drying process, the oak comes from the Allier and the Vosges
forests. Light, slow and long toasting process in wood depth.

The wine is produced in the communes of Vosne-Romanée and Flagey-Échezeaux in the wine region Côte de Nuits of Burgundy.
