One of Sicily's ancient autochthonous grape varieties - Ansonica or Insolia - from one of Sicily's flagship wineries - Firriato. Founded by Salvatore di Gaetano in the early 1980s and has since grown to include outstanding vineyards.

The Italian region of Apulia (Puglia) with its capital Bari is located deep in the south on the Adriatic coast. The elongated region consists of the spur (the Gargano Mountains) and the heel (the Salento Peninsula) of the boot. The area is one of the oldest wine-growing regions in the world, as the Phoenicians and Greeks planted vines here 3,000 years ago. The Romans particularly valued the wine from Tarentum (port city of Taranto) and the poet Horace (65-8 BC) described this area as a place of “eternal spring”. In contrast to the other southern regions, there are hardly any mountains, but the landscape consists of plateaus and flatlands. The climate is dry and hot with little rainfall, so artificial irrigation is sometimes necessary. The soils consist primarily of limestone, clay and sandstone. Puglia has the most grape varieties in southern Italy, around 80 percent of which are red. Many of them are autochthonous - these have been particularly cared for and cultivated in recent years.

The red Barbera grape variety probably comes from the Italian region of Piedmont, where it is also the main grape variety and accounts for half of the vineyard area. The Monferrato zone lays claim to being Barbera's birthplace, and records of it growing there as far back as the 13th century. The Corbières wine-growing region is located on the mountain range of the same name on the edge of the Pyrenees. To the south is the Roussillon appellation. The region extends from Narbonne on the Mediterranean to Carcasson inland. Between the Camargue and the Pyrenees are the sunny wine routes, which were used by the Greeks and Romans 2,600 years ago. Today they are used by the 20,000 winemakers of the Pays d’Oc. Côtes de Bourg is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) for Bordeaux wine situated around the small town of Bourg-sur-Gironde near Bordeaux, France. The first vineyards in the area were founded by the Romans. In the Middle Ages, Bourg was a major port for wine and the vineyards developed at the same tempo as the estuary traffic. Red Côtes de Bourg are garnet in colour and are predominantly based on the Merlot grape, blended with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Some Chateaux still use Malbec as part of the blend. The vine has been established in le Bourgeais for centuries and the current varieties have been selected because of their performance in relation to the soil. The Côtes de Bourg are characterized by the diversity and richness of their soils.
Although the Côtes de Bourg is composed of mainly clay and limestone soils, their make-up is so rich that there is a veritable mosaic of sand and gravel in the area around Pugnac. Three types are predominant. Firstly, the Sienna-red Quaternary alluvium that is quite specific to the region and situated more on the heights: Merlot and Malbec are widely cultivated. Merlot and Cabernet are planted on clay and sandy gravel soils while Merlot is also grown on the widespread areas of clay and limestone.

Château de Callac is a classic fine Graves based on 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. Graves in the Bordeaux region is an ancient wine-growing area. The Romans planted vineyards here as early as the 1st century. The wines from Graves established the fame of today's Bordeaux. The name Graves first appeared in the Middle Ages and is derived from the gravelly soil (terre graveleuse). The pebbles are collected and placed next to the vines. They store the heat of the sun during the day and release the heat to the grapes late into the night. This heat promotes the ripening process in a natural way and increases the sugar content of the grapes. Another special feature are the rose bushes planted at the end of each row of vines (originally to indicate mildew infestation).

Probably the most famous and well-known DO in Spain has a very old winemaking history. Numerous fermentation tanks carved into stone have been preserved, which testify to viticulture in ancient times. The efforts to ensure designation of origin and exquisite quality have a very long tradition. As early as 1560, winemakers decided to create a uniform brand for their barrels in order to guarantee the identity of the wines from this area. In 1635, the mayor of Logroño even banned the movement of carts through streets where wine cellars were located. This was done out of concern that vibrations caused by vehicles could spoil the grape must and thus affect the ripening process of the wines.
The first written reference to quality control and wine guarantees dates back to 1650. In 1787, the “Real Sociedad Económica de Cosecheros de Rioja” (Royal Economic Association of Rioja Winegrowers) was founded with the aim of promoting viticulture, winemaking and wine trade.

Priorat is an ancient Spanish wine region that fell into oblivion with the phylloxera epidemic in the 19th century and was only rediscovered by young winemakers in the 1980s and became a cult. Typical are the cuvées of Granacha and Carinyena. Both grape varieties tolerate the mild, rather dry climate excellently and are characterised in their aroma by the dark slate soil of the Priorat.

The Cru Bourgeois classification lists some of the Châteaux from the Médoc that were not included in the 1855 Classification of Crus Classés, or Classed Growths. Notionally, Cru Bourgeois is a level below Cru Classé, but still of high quality.

Chateau Croque Michotte is an ancient St. Emilion estate that can be dated back to 1355, when it was owned by the Black Prince, who was the son of King Edward III. At the time, the estate went under the name of Corbin Michotte. They changed their name and today, the Bordeaux wine producer is known as Chateau Croque Michotte.
Chateau Croque  Michotte is located near the Pomerol border. The vineyards of Croque Michotte are in one, large, single parcel of 7 hectares. The classical dry red wine comes from the appellation Saint-Estephe in Médoc. Saint-Estèphe is best known as the northernmost, and one of the four major wine growing appellations of the Médoc. The area is separated from Château Lafite-Rothschild in Pauillac to the south by the Jalle de Breuil stream and ist vineyards cover around 12 km² on the banks of the Garonne. The layers of gravel on top of clay lead to comparatively poor drainage, and the harvest is one of the latest of the whole region, although this water retention can be of use in vintages of low rainfall. Apart from the famous Grand Cru Classés there is a particularly high concentration of very good Cru Bourgeois in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, on the plateau south and west of the village.

German most famous and oldest viticulture is the „Steilhange“, steep slopes along the Mosella river. No wonder that Weingut Milz can praise such a long winemaking tradition and history. Since 1520, the Milz family has been known as great winemakers in Trittenheim, a wine village in the well-known Moselschleife. Parts of the original 1680 wine cellar are today still visible. Milz’s wines are quite classic Riesling from the Mosel, since they present the ideal alcohol level, delicatesugar residue and an extremely long finish. In 1900, these wines used to be the most expensive in any European restaurant’s menu, even more high-priced than the best Burgundies and Bordeaux wines.

The Leiterchen is a single part of the Trittenheimer Apotheke vineyard is located in front of Trittenheim on the right bank of the Mosella. This region is famous for his 40%-60% incline. Soil is rocky and made up of green-blue Devon – altered slate that during the day stores the sun heat on the west-southern slopes and at night gives it back to the vine. This phenomenon allows the growing Riesling to properly ripen. The vineyard is located at 150-200 metres above sea level and stretches across 72 hectares.

Firriato is now one of Sicily's flagship wineries. Founded by Salvatore di Gaetano in the early 1980s and has since grown to include outstanding vineyards. The classically made Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in barriques for seven months, is produced on Firriato's home land in Trapani.

The south to southwest location has a slope of 40 to 60%. The location allows optimal tanning with high temperatures. The drying of the leaf surfaces is promoted by good ventilation. The north winds that move from the Taunus to the Rhine have a positive effect on the microclimate of the vineyards and enable a long physiological ripening period and a corresponding fruit and aroma development of the grapes. Riesling is almost exclusively cultivated on the medium to deep, stony phyllite soils with proportions of loess and clay.

Recognition of DOCG status came in 1980. Château de Chelivette has existed since the 16th century near the communes of Ste Eulalie and St Loubes and has 29 hectares of prime hillside vineyards. German most famous and oldest viticulture is the „Steilhange“, steep slopes along the Mosella river. No wonder that Weingut Milz can praise such a long winemaking tradition and history. Since 1520, the Milz family has been known as great winemakers in Trittenheim, a wine village in the well-known Moselschleife. Parts of the original 1680 wine cellar are today still visible. Milz’s wines are quite classic Riesling from the Mosel, since they present the ideal alcohol level, delicatesugar residue and an extremely long finish. The Leiterchen is a single part of the Trittenheimer Apotheke vineyard is located in front of Trittenheim on the right bank of the Mosella. This region is famous for his 40%-60% incline.
