German most famous and oldest viticulture is the „Steilhange“, steep slopes along the Mosella river. No wonder that Weingut Milz can praise such a long winemaking tradition and history. Since 1520, the Milz family has been known as great winemakers in Trittenheim, a wine village in the well-known Moselschleife. Parts of the original 1680 wine cellar are today still visible. Milz’s wines are quite classic Riesling from the Mosel, since they present the ideal alcohol level, delicatesugar residue and an extremely long finish. In 1900, these wines used to be the most expensive in any European restaurant’s menu, even more high-priced than the best Burgundies and Bordeaux wines.

The Apotheke vineyard is located in front of Trittenheim on the right bank of the Mosella. This region is famous for his 40%-60% incline. Soil is rocky and made up of green-blue Devon – altered slate that during the day stores the sun heat on the west-southern slopes and at night gives it back to the vine. This phenomenon allows the growing Riesling to properly ripen. The vineyard is located at 150-200 metres above sea level and stretches across 72 hectares.

The peculiar name „Apotheke“ was not chosen because of a special healing effect of these wines, as you could guess, but it results form the alteration of the name „Abteiberg“: the hill were the old Trier Abbey was locarted. Until 1909 winemakers had to use a ferry to reach their vineyards. In the core area of the region the original docking pier still survives.

The classical dry red wine comes from the Barbaresco DOC in Northern Italy, the important wine region of Piedmont. Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Piedmont. Château de Sales is one of the most important wineries in Pomerol. The winery has been family-owned for 500 years. The castle dates from the 17th century, 47.5 hectares of the 90 hectare property are planted with vines. The Château Labégorce winery is located in the municipality of Castelnau-de-Médoc in the Margaux area in the Médoc. Classified as "Cru Bourgeois Exceptionel" in the Bordeaux classification. The origin of the estate dates back to the 14th century, the name of an Abbot Gorce. In a division that took place after the French Revolution, the neighboring Château Labégorce-Zédé and L'Abbé de Gorsse de Gorsse, as well as Château Labégorce were created. The manor house in Louis XVI style. was completed in 1821. In 1865 the estate was purchased by Fortuné Beaucourt, a mayor of Margaux. After several changes of ownership, it finally became the property of the industrialist Hubert Perrodo in 1989. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of vineyards planted with the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (45%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (2%). The long-lived red wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in one-third new barriques.

Northeast of Saint Emilion lie four parishes identified by their place name as a separate appellation. These so-called satellite locations have very different soil types, from limestone sandstone to gravel plateaus (graves). Clos la Madeleine is in a prime location in Saint Emilion close to the 1er Cru Ausone, Belair and Canon. It has only 2.5 hectares of vineyards, 72% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc. The winery has existed since 1841 and was taken over by a group of wine enthusiasts in 1992, since then the quality of the wines has improved significantly. Château Duhart-Milon’s very fine second wine is selected on the same basis as the “Grand Vin”. In general, the grapes are from the younger plots in the vineyard. Moulin de Duhart has several characteristics similar to the grand vin, but with less potential for ageing as its barrel ageing period is shorter. It should be consumed younger than its more robust counterpart.

The estate originally known simply as Chateau Milon, at one time the estate was known as the second wine of Chateau Lafite. In 1815, the Pauillac property was considered by some people as a fourth growth Bordeaux wine in the making. In those days, the wine was sold under the name of Chateau Mandavy-Milon. Between 1830 and 1840, the Casteja family became the owners of the estate from an inheritance.

The label of Duhart Milon, according to family tradition came about from an old legend written about one of their ancestors, Sir Duhart. Sir Duhart, was rumored to have been a pirate for Louis XV. He settled at Pauillac for retirement. The “pirate’s house” on the Pauillac port existed up to the 1950’s. That original building inspired the label for the Duhart-Milon wines.

The Casteja family remained in possession of Duhart Milon until the first part of the 20th century. In 1962 the Rothschild family purchased the property. The 152 hectare vineyard of Chateau Duhart Milon includes 76 hectares of vines planted to 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot.
