Wine 2022
The weather is getting warmer and drier year after year - including 2022. The year was the warmest when records began. Under these circumstances, rainfall during grape ripening is no longer necessarily a problem, but welcome to avoid drying out in the vineyard. ... In Bordeaux and in Piedmont spring rainfall was plentiful, offsetting the intense summer heat. In Germany there was frost again and heavy rain in the autumn, to which the winegrowers had to react quickly.

Classic Vermentino with aromas of citrus and yellow peaches and floral notes and sage.
The year 2022 was marked by a lack of rain: from winter to early spring only 170 mm of precipitation was recorded. In May, Banfi experienced drought and above-average temperatures. Then came scorching hot days in June, July and mid-August. This resulted in an early harvest of white grape varieties. Vermentino is a late ripening grape variety and well suited to such climatic conditions. The harvest began on September 5th. Thanks to the high ventilation of the vineyards during the hottest hours of the afternoon, the aromas and especially the acidity were perfectly preserved.

The hilltops of Sancerre vineyards spread through 14 villages. The two grape varieties in Sancerre are the Sauvignon Blanc and the Pinot Noir. They have gained the AOC status in 1936. The red and rosé wines, made from the noble Pinot Noir, followed in 1959 when they were awarded the AOC accreditation.
The white wines, lively and full of fruit; proposes citrus, white flowers and mineral aromas. The fresh attack gives way to a rich and round palate typical of these great wines.
In the 12th century, cultivation of vines was given added impetus through the combined efforts of the Augustine monks in St-Satur and the ruling counts of Sancerre. At that time Sancerre was famous for its red wine, produced predominantly from the Pinot Noir grape, and exported from the region along the Loire. This wine is often mentioned in accounts of life at the royal court. The famous wine of Sancerre was, in the opinion of Duke Jean de Berry, indeed the finest wine to be found in the entire kingdom.

Pure Frappato from organic farming. The red grape variety is typical of the Vittoria wine region in Sicily. Classically, Frappato contributes freshness, fruitiness and acidity to the Ceraluolo di Vittoria in combination with the full-bodied Nero d'Avola. As a stand-alone red wine, a Frappato offers fine elegance.

Women and men caught in everyday poses and activities, which, thanks to the artist's imagination, create a correspondence between the character of the wine and its personification on the label. Everyone is free to let themselves be carried away by the visual suggestions, bringing their own memories into play. Just like when sipping a wine. The Frappato, fresh and lively, is a maiden playing with grape-balls.

Arneis is the typical white wine of Piedmont. The grape variety of the same name was already known in the 15th century. It is relatively low in acidity, produces fragrant wines to be drunk young, with fine fruit and at the same time a strong body. Due to its susceptibility to downy mildew, Arneis almost became extinct a few years ago. It has experienced a renaissance since the 1990s.
The DOCG Roero Arneis was finally created in 2005.
The sandy hills of the Roero wine-growing region in Piedmont, across from the Barolo heartland, lend themselves particularly well to Arneis.

Aligoté is a very old grape varity of Burgundy. The most famous wines produced here - those commonly referred to as Burgundies - are red wines made from Pinot Noir grapes or white wines made from Chardonnay grapes. Red and white wines are also made from other grape varieties, such as Gamay and Aligoté respectively. Small amounts of rosé and sparkling wine are also produced in the region.

In Puglia there is a peculiar tradition for wines - the wines are succinctly named according to their alcohol content (and in this case that means their intensity): 14/20 is the classic balanced Primitivo with precise fruit and 14% alcohol. A Primitivo that is different from the mainstream: salty with herbal aromas, absolutely dry. If you know them, you can smell the typical wild capers of southern Italy. No wonder, the vineyards are only a few hundred meters from the coast. Le Fiatte is run by the 4th generation of the Bisci family. They only produce a small number of wine types - a Primitivo, a Fiano, a Negroamaro Rosé - but with consistency and independence in terms of quality.
Calcium-rich soil of corsican origin, enriched with red iron oxide (typical of the Salento soil). The limestone soils are cool and have good water retention, allowing the vines' root system to penetrate deeply and providing excellent drainage. After the first pressing, the grapes undergo a maceration of 8-10 days.
The red grape variety Primitivo is mainly cultivated in the southern Italian region of Apulia. It probably comes from Croatia/Dalmatia and was given its name in the 17th century by Benedictine monks due to its early maturity (Latin primativus = first-mover). From there it probably found its way to Italy and also to Germany via Austria under the name Blauer Scheuchner. Since it was first detected near the mountain town of Gioia, it is also called Primitivo di Gioia. It produces deep, dark, spicy and high-alcohol red wines and is often used as a blending partner for late-ripening varieties. According to Dr. According to DNA analyzes carried out by Carole Meredith in 2001 at the University of California in collaboration with Croatian grape specialists, the Primitivo is identical to the Californian Zinfandel.

Aligoté is an ancient grape variety in Burgundy. Like the more famous Chardonnay, it also comes from a natural cross between Pinot and Gouais Blanc. Very old vines in high-quality vineyards in Burgundy produce the best results for classic white wine.
The wine comes from three tiny plots of Marlot, Clou and Bignon with a total of 1.2 hectares of vineyards. The wine was on the lees for 8 months. Typical citrus aromas and fine creaminess.

Vernatsch - Schiava in Italian - is the red grape variety of South Tyrol. If it is grown ambitiously and with reduced yields, as is the case with Peter Zemmer, the light-footed cherry fruitiness and the violet scent result in a fine elegance and structure. The wine can be drunk slightly chilled.
The Zemmer winery was founded in 1928 and is now family-run in the third generation. The vineyards have an altitude difference of 800 m and loose, well-aerated soils made of dolomite and limestone with glacial deposits of gravel, gravel, sand and clay.

Single-variety white and red wines dominate the northern Côte du Rhône. For white wine, the grape variety is Marsanne, which produces low-acid wines with a floral bouquet. Saint Péray, which is rarely found, borders on Cornas and is, in a sense, its counterpart: Cornas stands for dense, dark red wines, while Saint Péray, with its western-facing vineyards on a limestone base, produces very cool, mineral-sparse white wines. Cave de Tain is one of the typical cooperatives in the wine region. It was founded in 1933 largely by Louis Gambert de Loche, who also forms the heart of Cave de Tain with his first-class vineyard plots.

The Domaine de la Solitude is one of the most traditional wineries in the region. La Solitude's oldest wine dates back to 1780 and the property has been family-owned since the 400s. Classic Chateauneuf du Pape blanc with good structure and elegance, complex exotic aromas of white peach, pineapple, very mineral. The grape varieties are 30% Grenache blanc, 29% Clairette, 25% Roussanne, 15% Bourboulenc and some Picpoul.
The history of this famous appellation in the southern section of the Rhône is closely linked to the popes. From 1309 to 1377, the city of Avignon was the seat of the popes and from 1378 to 1408 of two counter-popes. One of them was Pope John XXII (1244-1334), born in Cahors, who chose Châteauneuf Castle as his summer residence and gave important impulses to viticulture. The 3,140-hectare area was the first state-recognised appellation in France.
