The year 2022 was marked by a lack of rain: from winter to early spring only 170 mm of precipitation was recorded. In May, Banfi experienced drought and above-average temperatures. Brunello di Montalcino is a DOCG for dry red wine in the Italian region of Tuscany. The Castello di Banfi winery was founded by two Italian-Americans from New York, Harry and John Mariani, who had become very wealthy by importing Lambrusco. The grapes for Macchialuna grow on 1.5 hectares of vineyards. The white wine contains 60% Petit Manseng and 40% Sauvignon Blanc. Petit Manseng is native to small quantities, especially in southern France. The grape variety has small, hard-skinned berries with aromas of cinnamon, exotic fruits, honey and ripe peach. Sauvignon Blanc brings minerality, saltiness, some herbal aromas, hay to the wine. A very strict selection is carried out by hand picking. The grapes are then cooled to 6°C and cold maceration begins for 6-12 hours.

Fontalloro is the most representative expression of Fèlsina’s Sangiovese. Felsina was founded in 1966 by Domenico Poggiali. The property extends at least 500 hectares with 90 hectares under vine. The many different vineyards feature very specific microclimates, each one unlike any other. Altitudes vary from 350 to 420 meters above sea level, with soils that range from clay to alberese, rich in minerals and fossils. Fontalloro grapes come from vineyards straddling the border between Chianti Classico and the Chianti Colli Senesi denomination. The grapes are influenced by diverse soil compositions: on the Chianti Classico side the soil is stony and calcareous; on the Crete Senesi side the soil is sandy, loamy and silty with pebbles and marine sediments. In the year 1877, the cousins Leopoldo and Ilario Ruffino  developing their own small winery in a town near Florence, Pontassieve.  Ruffino become popular for their balanced and clean wines, embracing the motto “Here We Make Ideal Wine.” The status also of Ruffino family was also established firmly both internationally and nationally when its own Ruffino Chianti won the gold medal during the Milan Wine exhibition in the year 1881, and a consolation prize during the Nice Exhibition in 1884 and another one gold medal in Antwerp Exhibition in year 1885. Brunello di Montalcino is a DOCG for dry red wine in the Italian region of Tuscany. The zone covers the slopes around the picturesque hilltop town of Montalcino - 40 kilometers south of Siena in the province of the same name. The wine is made 100 percent from the Sangiovese variety Brunello. An important aspect of quality lies in the very special climate, as it is warmer and drier than in the nearby Chianti areas and the nights are cooler. The Castello di Banfi winery was founded by the two Italian-Americans Harry and John Mariani from New York, who had become very wealthy by importing Lambrusco.
