The strange name of the Wasseros vineyard plot refers to spring areas that emerge from the ground in many places. Such places were referred to as water horses in old cadastral locations as early as 1610 and gave this area in Kiedrich its name. The vines in this first Lage (1er Cru) in the VdP grow on shallow and stony soils that are permeated with loess and loess loam. This produces delicate Rieslings with a mineral acidity, which exhibit a beautiful harmony even as young wines.

The classical dry red wine comes from the Barbaresco DOC in Northern Italy, the important wine region of Piedmont. Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Piedmont. It is a wine of extremely ancient origin and was mentioned by Livy in his monumental History of Rome. It was only toward the middle of the 19th century, however, that production was begun of a dry type of wine, which brought out all of Barbaresco's extraordinary qualities. Professor Domizio Cavazza, a noted enologist, introduced new vinification techniques and, in 1894, founded a cooperative winery exclusively dedicated to the production of Barbaresco. Barbaresco is 100% made with the Nebbiolo grape. The dry red wine is produced in the Piedmont region in an area of the Langhe immediately to the east of Alba and specifically in the comunes of Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive plus that area of the frazione San Rocco. The soils of Barbaresco zone are composed primarily of calcareous marl dating from the Tortonian epoch.

The estate, classified as “Cru Classé”, is located in Talence, commune of AC Pessac-Léognan in the area of Graves. The winery goes back to XVI century and by mid-XVII century it became the property of Guillaume Joseph Saige under the name of “La tour d’Esquivens”. In 1850, famous authors Charles Cocks (dead in 1854) and Édouard Féret mentioned the name "La Tour Haut-Brion" for the very first time. In 1890, wine trader Victor Coustau bought the estate and elected it as his headquarter, also when in 1903 he acquired the nearby and more famous Château La Mission Haut-Brion. In 1983 both the wineries were sold to the American family Dillon. The Dillon family owns, under the name of "Domaine Clarenece Dillon", the four wineries of Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion, Château La Tour-Haut-Brion and Château Laville-Haut-Brion. Château La Tour-Haut-Brion vienyards stretch over an area of 5 hectares and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (42%), Cabernet Franc (35%) and Merlot (23%). This extremely long-lived and full-bodied wine is aged in 50% new oak barrels for 24 months.

At the time of the famous Bordeaux classification of 1855, the winery in the commune Saint-Laurent-Médoc was called Château Coutenceau. The "Bellegrave" designation appeared, when Bruno Devès, a negociant in Bordeaux, remodelled the estate, favoring wine growing on gravel terroirs.
The 55 hectares of vineyards are situated immediately to the west of the border with Saint-Julien-Beychevelle. Chateau Troplong Mondot was in the 17th century the property of Abbé Raymond de Sèze. It was de Seze, who created in 1745 the chateau that remains at Troplong Mondot today. In 1850, Raymond Troplong became the owner of this Right Bank estate.
Troplong Mondot occupies great terroir. The 33 hectare vineyard lies on the slopes, at an elevation over 100 meters that allows views of the entire St. Emilion village. The soil consists of deep limestone deposits under layers of thick clay. There are also sedimentary fragments of flint and limestone.  In 2006 Chateau Troplong Mondot was awarded their well deserved promotion to Premier Grand Cru Classé B status, which was upheld in the recent 2012 St. Emilion classification. Due to their unique, cooler terroir, with large deposits of clay, Troplong Mondot is often one of the last, St. Emilion vineyards to be harvested.

The estate originally known simply as Chateau Milon, at one time the estate was known as the second wine of Chateau Lafite. In 1815, the Pauillac property was considered by some people as a fourth growth Bordeaux wine in the making. In those days, the wine was sold under the name of Chateau Mandavy-Milon. Between 1830 and 1840, the Casteja family became the owners of the estate from an inheritance.

The label of Duhart Milon, according to family tradition came about from an old legend written about one of their ancestors, Sir Duhart. Sir Duhart, was rumored to have been a pirate for Louis XV. He settled at Pauillac for retirement. The “pirate’s house” on the Pauillac port existed up to the 1950’s. That original building inspired the label for the Duhart-Milon wines.

The Casteja family remained in possession of Duhart Milon until the first part of the 20th century. In 1962 the Rothschild family purchased the property. The 152 hectare vineyard of Chateau Duhart Milon includes 76 hectares of vines planted to 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot.

Arnaud III de Pontac, a leading nobleman and the first president of the regional parliament- who insisted that the red wine from his family's estate, located in Pessac, was an unique, that didn't had sold  to négociants, who then blended it with other wines. Starting in 1660, he demanded a premium price for a wine with a name that no one beyond Bordeaux knew- "Haut- Brion", his family estate. After all, he sent his son to London five years later to open a tavern, where his wines were sold so exclusively and at quite steep prices. The vineyard of Château Haut Brion is planted to 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. The high Merlot content, compared to the Médoc First Growths, gives the wine a voluptuous edge, but does not in any way detract from its ability to age. Haut Brion was purchased by the American financier and politician Clarence Dougless Dillion in 1935. His granddaughter still owns and operates Haut-Brion to this day.

One of the grandest, most imposing buildings amongst the Médoc châteaux, Château Margaux in ist current form was built in the early 19th century, although viticulture had been practised on the estate for several centuries before.
