Bardolino is a small village on the East coast of Lake Garda. Goethe, the German poet, visited the area and remained enchanted by its atmosphere. Bardolino is a particularly pleasant wine that collects a lo of wine qualities like the mild climate, the exposition to the sunshine, the perfect balancing between rains and temperature, the variety of soils (sand, pebbles and clay) and the passion and ability of the producers. The grape blend is the same of Valpolicella wines: mainly Corvina, Rondinella and Moinara, but the result is a completely different wine even if Valpolicella is only few kilometers from Bardolino wine producing area. Bardolino can be called Superiore when it has an alcoholic percentage of at least 12° and is aged for at least one year. To meet the quality standards expected from a DOCG wine, Barodolino producers had to reduce the yield per hectar by introducing vine clones focusing on quality rather than on quantity. A careful selection of the best grapes is also operated in the vineyards during harvest.

Grignolino d’Asti is a DOC for dry red wine in the Barolo area in the Italian region of Piedmont. The zone includes 34 municipalities in the province of Asti and the municipality of Castiglione Faletto in the province of Cuneo. The wine is made from Grignolino (90-100%) and Freisa (up to 10%). It is believed that the red Grignolino grape is identical to the Barbesino grape. The name comes from the dialect word “grignole”, which means kernels and refers to the high tannin content. Gutturnio is a DOC Colli Piacentini wine made from the Barbera and Croatina grape varieties. In 1908, it was reported in the Agricoltura Piacentina that Bonarda wine, also known as Croatina wine, was being cultivated experimentally and showing great promise. It suffered during the phylloxera blight, but returned to strong growth in the 1930s. It was the wine expert, Mario Prati, who had the bright idea to mix the two grapes. The Bersano winery was founded in the end of the 19th century in Nizza Monferrato. Pinot gris (French) is a white wine grape variety. The strange name of the Wasseros vineyard plot refers to spring areas that emerge from the ground in many places. Recognition of DOCG status came in 1980.
