Description of the product
In the southwest of France, in the Lot valley, lies the Cahors wine-growing region. It forms a link between Bordeaux and Languedoc. Viticulture has a long tradition in the area named after the town of Cahors; it is one of the oldest and most famous wine-growing regions in France. The regional winemakers have made a significant contribution to the creation of the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which is made on the Rhône. The “black wine” also contributed to the region's good reputation. From the Middle Ages onwards, it was made from grapes that had previously been dried in the oven or boiled down as grape must.
The vineyards are located in the upper part of the gravel terraces within the meanders formed by the Lot and on the limestone plateau called Causse. Very wet, sometimes long, harsh winters are followed by hot summers. This means that the vines can store water quite well even during the dry period. The main grape variety here is Malbec.
